I just can´t save the game

well, after getting the game cheap through the steam halloween special, i tried to play it. Everything seems to work fine (graphics, mouse, movement etc.) with the small exception that the game seems unable to save anything i do. I can not change the settings, the autosaves don´t work etc.
I always get a nice ingame screen telling me that "the game cannot save your settings and/or progress at this time".
As "this time" means always, the game is rather unplayable if you don't want to play it through in one fell swoop without ever dying.

Otherwise the game works flawlessly so it could have "gold" status.

Does anyone have an idea why that is?

What platform are you playing it on?

Ah sorry forgot to mention that.
I play on an iMac with Mac OS X 10.7.5 and obviously via Steam. Its really strange that everything works aside from the saving part.

Heya,

The other day, one of the other advocates spotted a game that for some reason used the value of "TMPDIR" environment variable and because of that he could not make save files. He's also using a Mac. What I suggested to him, and judging by the "Tips & tricks" article he wrote today for that game it seem to have worked, was to override the TMPDIR environment variable in the registry.

To do that, make sure that both the game and steam are closed. Open the bottle management GUI and select the bottle where you have the game installed.

  • click on the "Run Command" and type regedit in the dialog box that pops up
  • search for the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment
  • you will see there two other entries: TMP and TEMP with the same value C:\users\crossover\Temp
  • right-click on "Environment" and select New->String value. Set it's name to TMPDIR and it's value to C:\users\crossover\Temp

Fingers crossed :)

Thank you! 😊

I was able to follow your instructions but tragically that was to no avail. I´m not a complete newbie when it comes to crossover, so I think I got it right.

But as it is I still get the error message. Searching through the internet I found that the "cannot save" issue was wildly known when the game was released on the ps3. Is it possible that an old bug has crept put of his eon long slumber to menace the living? 😉

anyway, thanks for the help.
