I've been trying to get gmod to work on my mac mini, and so far I've been successful (the game runs and plays fairly well) however there are a few problems...

1) The crosshair and HUD do not show on the screen
2) I have to play the game at DX7 mode, because if I use 8.0+ higher the game crashes
3) In the start menu, black boxes appear behind the words and also behind dialog boxes.

I'm not sure if its a graphics problem, but I'm confused because counter strike source runs fine... any suggestions?

HL and CS mods typically crash if u have the game in full-screen wide-screen aspect ratio (16:9 or 16:10), games like Garry's Mod, Zombie Panic: Source, etc. ALWAYS crash when in full resltn (especially in widesreen). My advice to u is get the latest CXG 8.1.4 (unsupported) and set the game to be in window-mode and in normal (4:3). I tried this on my MacBook Pro and the game runs smoothly. Also set graphics property to lowest, ul see a big difference in fps as well as stability. I hope I've helped.

P.S. once u got CXG 8.1.4 u can set the game to Direct X 8.1 if u want and it wont crash, but ul also have to do what i said in the above.

Ok that fixed the crosshair problem but when I tried to load the game this morning, it just crashes at the loading screen. I redownloaded the game, which made it work for a few runs but then something happened and the game just wont work.

if this helps, im getting an error that says "Engine error - could not load gameui"
