Gmod does not start with crossover 8.0

I've been using crossover games 8.0 for some days now and every source engine game runs fine, except Garry's mod.

Upon starting the game, it briefly shows the loading background and then pops up a dialog "Could not load library client"

Has anybody else had this issue?

in steam right click on garrys mod,

click on properties.

click on the local files tab.

click on: verify intergrity of game cache.

wait till it is done,

this will check if you have all of the files that are needed, and will donwload those you dont have,.

I've already tryed this. Even moving the steamapps/<account>/garrysmod folder doesn't change anything.

Frode, have you had the opportunity to try it on 8.0?

edit: Should I post on this Garry's mod 10 entry or the other one ?

I never had an issue with Garry's mod on Crossover Games.

If you are still having problems let me know. I've got a lot of experience with Valve Source games

works just fine on CXG 8.1.4

I still have this very problem. If I run gmod from "original" wine (any current version), works just fine. Just to check: I symlink steamapps folder to both cx games steam and wine steam.

Here is what it looks like:

Seems that this error is from the engine itself, and is generated by mis-configured mods, but since it's oficial gmod, i'm running in wine and i'm the only one having it on cx games... I must be the One.

My system is ArchLinux, KDE 4.3.4, X.org 7.5, X.org server 1.7.3, nVidia drivers 190.42, kernel 2.6.31
This has been affecting me since CX 8.0, which included older kernel, x.org and drivers (might not be a bug in those)

Well.. If anybody else has this problem, just shout. It's tedious to be alone...

Works for me in Arch x86_64 with the very latest stuff pulled in with a pacman -Syu.

One thing you might want to check is permissions, it's possible CXG is perhaps not getting access to a file regular Wine is.

Perhaps even try making another user and use just a simple CXG only setup to test it?

It really can't be. I've tried ripping off everything realted to cxgames and re-downloading gmod .gcfs (including dependencies like half-life and counter-strike).

I have traced the problem, "Could not load library client" error pops-up when WLDAP32.dll is not found.

err:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L"WLDAP32.dll": libldap_r.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
err:module:import_dll Loading library WLDAP32.dll (which is needed by L"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\steamname\garrysmod\garrysmod\bin\client.dll") failed (error c000007a).
  • Crossover Games Linux 8.0.4 here

Edit: Fixed it
1# I downloaded WLDAP32.dll from the internet.
2# then extracted wldap32.dll into "bottle/drive_c/windows/system32"
3# ran "CrossOver Games -> Run a Windows command" Selected bottle, command "winecfg"
4# In Winecfg select tab "Libraries"
5# In "New override library for" type: wldap32.dll
6# Press "Add", then "Apply" and "Ok"

Sorry for the late feedback.

This fix has worked for me. Thanks!

But once I start getting a lot of activity in gmod (lots of constraints/props), the game slows down to less than 5fps, even after everything is cleared.

Playing with dxlevel 81 seems to solve the problem.

Nice that it worked out for you.

Theres some bugs still that heap the CPU and GPU, thereby requiring you to run on dxlevel 81 if you don't have an awesome CPU.
A 3-core processor should do the trick and they don't cost more than ~80-100€ and you can unlock the 4th core, so its good price/quality.
I myself have to play with dxlevel 81 too looks like sh*t, but I'm more about the physics than GFX so it doesn't matter to me.
I have an single 2.2ghz processor :< I should upgrade too and see if that would work out better with games.

Actually, I've bought a 3 core processor recently, but is seems that wine/crossover don't support it in source engine games. Gmod doesn't display the multi-core rendering option, and other source games like TF2 behave strange when it's activated.

You are using a fake version on gmod please buy it...

This is an confirmed bug on the Crossover side, that IIRC doesn't appear on vanilla Wine.
Please stop accusation of fake/unlegit versions.

I'm interested in helping people, thats why I posted a working fix.
Now it's not my business over is it a legit or unlegit copy.

And IIRC unlegit Garrys Mod doesn't even work properly so it's ones decision do they buy it or not.
I've myself bought it and thats all that matters for me.

Let's not start a flaming war here ok?
