Post Installation Instructions

As you may have noticed, when GameMaker Studio starts in CrossOver, the New Project window is completely black and you can't interact with it to input your license key. Here is what you must to fix this:

  1. If it is not running, start CrossOver

  2. From the Configure menu, choose Manage Bottles

  3. Select the "GameMaker Studio" bottle

  4. Go to the Advanced tab and click the Open C: Drive in Finder button

  5. Navigate to: drive_c/users/crossover/Application Data/GameMaker-Studio/skins/

  6. Rename GMGreen.col, GMGreen.skn, GMHTML5.col, GMHTML5.skn to GMGreen_old.col, GMGreen_old.skn, GMHTML5_old.col, GMHTML5_old.skn

  7. Do NOT rename GM8.col or GM8.dll

  8. Start GameMaker Studio and enter a license key or click the Free button at the bottom to use the trial edition

  9. Either create a new project or open one of the tutorials

  10. You will notice that once the project opens, the interface is unreadable. Everything is black except for some of the interface.

  11. Go to the File menu and choose Preferences.

  12. Change the Skin to GM8.

  13. Exit and restart GameMaker Studio. It should be work normally now.

It took a few tries but I just got this working with Game Maker Pro in Steam using the instructions above.

Versions
CrossOver: 14.0.1
GameMaker Studio: v1.3.1443
Mac OS X: 10.9.5

For me the skins folder is located here:
/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/Steam/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/gamemaker_studio/skins

If you have trouble trying to use the interface prior to fixing it, try right clicking and minimize the window and then maximize it. This seems to get the interface to draw enough to see what you need to do to enable the fix.

I also noticed that every time I exit GameMaker, Steam never thinks that it has exited properly so I have to force quit Steam to relaunch GameMaker.

I've been trying to get this to work but haven't been able to at all.
Changing the skin names worked for getting past the login screen but once pas that, I can't get the IDE to open reliably and never the preference pane. :(
Crossover 15.3,
Mac El Capitan (10.11.6)
GameMaker 1.4
