Runs but unplayable peformance

Installed on Steam on M1 Max macOS Monterey. It runs once Windows live is disabled by adding xlive.dll file as found on pcgamingwiki.com. But it is unplayable. 3 FPS on an M1 Max. Does someone have the secret to getting games of this era running faster? It's 32-bit DirectX 9 I think.
