MIDI not functional

Using this app in it's 'native' mode is fine - it uses softsynths and
the like, which hook to the PCM device of the host -- that said, the
host system will need enough performance on hand to do this, otherwise
the sound quality suffers badly/becomes choppy.

I could not get MIDI output to work at all - I tried a number of
differing approaches to no avail. Although it can 'see' all my
valid (alsa) MIDI clients (including my emu10k1 wavetables), it
refused to make noise. I started jackd to find out if I could see
anything here -- the fruityloops configuration sees the jack_midi
clients, however I couldn't see any midi events/sync pulses anywhere,
which probably explains a lot...

I checked the host's MIDI functionality in winecfg -- it all seems
to be working fine in here...(gives the impression that fruityloops
should work). Looks like the MIDI chain is broken somewhere...
