How to setup midi controller

I am currently running fl studio 11 on my Mac there's been problems like when I Change my setting in the option menu they don't save now when I mark a vst as my favorite does it stay my favorite are these hints to why I can't load up my akai max 49 settings so I can use the transport on my keyboard to control fl studios play pause etc
