Square has made it so we are forced to use their horrible patching service instead of like how Blizzard lets the patch be mirrored. When I run the game after installing it in CO Games 9.1.0, the patch window is completely black and it just sits there. Since I haven't gotten past the patcher so I have no idea if the game will run.
Two things come to mind...
first: OMFG, You bought it? I hope you have a dual boot or windows box nearby! Did you run the Benchmark? What was the score?
Second: In the beta, people used the patcher to get the initial torrent file and then used µTorrent (or other client) to actually get the files. ('cuz the Squeenix one sucked)
I actually pre-ordered the collector's edition. I haven't run the benchmark program yet. I was able to get it up and running with no problem in Parallels but the game just was too powerful to use Parallel's virtual graphic drivers on a virtual machine (the game was beyond tolerable in graphic lag even with everything on low settings.) I'll post my benchmark reports through COG once I get it setup. I'm going to dual boot eventually. Once I get windows 7 x64 up and running I will also report back those numbers.

Good. I'd hate to see someone buy this for use on a virtual machine.
Overall, I'd like to give it a real try. Feels like FFXI without the requirement of a 6-player, fully balanced party to do anything.
