Updating the TIE

I'm making an attempt to update the TIE file. So far, it seems fairly straightforward (only Win 8 64bit, DXVK, .cfg tweaks), but that isn't enough.

Apparently some people have gotten it to work. What extra stuff did you add or adjust in the Crossover bottle?

Main things I did:

  1. installed Steam into a bottle.
  2. Downloaded the game through steam (since I have steam version)
  3. Set the launcher to the older launcher
  4. disabled the video play back
  5. disabled DXVK to launch the launcher (would crash otherwise)
  6. Logged in and patch
  7. enabled DXVK before clicking the play button.

Thanks. :) I should start thinking outside the box (bottle?). Maybe Steam is the key to this puzzle.

Older Launcher - I don't think that can be fixed within the TIE, as the .CFG file needs to be edited. No problem.
Video Playback - I assume you mean the opening cut scene? As above, not TIE, but another .CFG edit. No problem.
DXVK crashing Launcher - Odd, but basically another .CFG edit.

For testing, the licenses are going to be an issue. Squeenix requires a separate license per platform and expansion: Mac, Windows, and PS4/5; Starter, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker. I think Steam (for Windows) is a completely separate license/account system, and is mutually exclusive to the Windows license. (i.e. you can't have Windows and Steam at the same time)

What I find interesting is what you didn't say - no additional supporting packages. Just Steam (and whatever its baggage is) and FFXIV within Steam.

Do you have toggle DXVK every time you start? ...or is that a one time fix?

Yeah those are .CFG edits I think that has to be manual.

Yes that is correct though you could try to install the non-steam version into the steam bottle and get the same affect.

I own the starter for Mac and everything for the windows steam version.

Yeah I didn't require any supporting packages. I just make sure to enable Direct X 11 in the launcher. I have to toggle DXVK off then on every time I launch the game.

With DXVK on the launcher will crash as it tries to load.
With DXVK off in the game, the game will crash them trying to load into a character.

When I attempted to install supporting packages I wasn't able to get very far. I needed up deleting the entire bottle and starting from scratch. This led me to my above solution.

I'm pretty new to crossover. But I assume there must be something auto-configured when you install steam through crossover vs making your own bottle and running the installer yourself.

When I tried the later when I first started steam didn't launch. When I installed through crossover it worked like a charm

Taking a step back with more information...

I am using MacOS on M1 MacBook Air 8/8, with CX 21.0. I have managed to acquire licenses for Windows/Stormblood, Mac/Heavensward and PS4/Shadowbringers over the past decade. (Don't ask! LOL)

I did a clean CrossTie install of Steam into a Win 7 64-bit bottle. No issue. I manually installed FFXIV into that bottle from a fresh download using "unlisted application" (so it wouldn't pull up any existing crossties). The installation (which is the launcher/patcher only) went without any issue.

At this point, I am assuming it found the assorted .CFG files for the Mac version I already have installed, and I didn't have to manually edit them. I encountered the same JavaScript related issue in the user/password area. The download was started and behaved as expected. (I canceled it, as I don't want to wait anther four hours)

DXVK was turned off by default in the bottle, and the patcher disabled the DX11 switch. If I enable DXVK, the DX11 switch is still disabled. The launcher works regardless of DXVK

Are you able to set DX11Enabled to 1 in the FFXIV_BOOT.cfg? Maybe you can bypass the launcher to set that

Nope. Set that flag, and no difference in the launcher.

At this point, might be better to just set everything aside until CX22, or whatever version includes the next big Stable WINE release

I tried working with this to get it going. So far using the tip about changing the browser in the cfg file I can get the launcher to run. I have a 2 factor auth key so if I enter my password without the extra 2 factor code, the launcher correctly pops up an error message. But if I enter it, the section of the launcher where you enter username and password blanks and stays that way. The launcher can be closed normally afterward. It's not hung, it just stops doing anything at that point.

I'm on a new setup (just got this laptop today) so I've only just installed CrossOver and created the bottle with the FFXIV Online crosstie. Nothing extra added.
