Working - I'd say 90% there

Hiya guys, after installing windows and having a field day with crashes and freezes i decided to try this once again. I installed the latest CO13.01 on Ubuntu 13.10 installed using the FF14 installer, and tried patching as expected it didn't work.
Second step was installing a few things using winetricks following Eric Kuzmenko's tip from the tips and tricks section :

WINEPREFIX=~/.cxoffice/<bottle> winetricks d3dx9 devenum ie8 quartz wininet winhttp xact_jun2010 wmp10

Tried running again and everything worked perfectly, couldn't test the downloader since i just copied the folder i had in windows witch was fully patched. I logged in the data center chose my server and character and logged into the game.

Running the game in windowed mode is the only way it worked with a frame rate of 23-25fps if i went full screen the fps dropped to around 2fps and we all know that is just pure chaos. so windowed customized when as large as i could. Haven't done any intense testing later today ill run some instances and update the post.

  • Note i have noticed in 2 occasions that DirectX crashes the game and not nice crashes but crashes were it just locks completely up and a reset is required, again 2 crashes in around 1 hour of fiddling with configurations. Will update if this continues.

Some system notes:
Ubuntu 13.10 64bit
CrossOver 13.0.1
Nvidia GTX 550 Ti
Nvidia 319 drivers

Have you tried seeing if the DirectX Command Stream tech is active on your bottle? That's one of the things that's suppose to be putting CX ahead of wine right now. I know in wine you have to enable it with: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/Direct3D/CSMT="enabled" in the register, but it may be enabled from the start in a new CX bottle.

Update after 4 hours of gameplay

2 cases of flickering, one went away the other 20 minutes later had to restart the game
3 crashes during Ifrit hard mode all during same fight.. maybe something to do with the video drivers its a somewhat video intensive fight

anyone know how i can start loggin things so i can review later the crash details?

Been playing for a few days game no longer crashes, and today downloaded an updated from the patch server. So downloads are working.

I don't get it...

I've installed Winetricks, but... now what? I don't get how to apply this:

WINEPREFIX=~/.cxoffice/Final Fantasy XIV winetricks d3dx9 devenum ie8 quartz wininet winhttp xact_jun2010 wmp10

I tried entering that in the Terminal, but just says command not found.

Sorry... very new to Linux.

Nevermind... I think I figured it out...

I went into the directory of the bottle, and then entered "winetricks d3dx9 devenum ie8 quartz wininet winhttp xact_jun2010 wmp10", it then started intalling everything.

Now when I tried to run the application, I get this message:

"Unable to complete version check [30605][10007]"

How do I fix this?

I keep going at it, fixed the dll errors that caused the game to crash by getting native dll files, finally goes pass the version check, but then when it tries to grab the update, it says "Unable to download patch files."

Hi there,

Thanks!

I'm using Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon 64-bit
Cinnamon Version: 2.0.14
Linux Kernel 3.13.1-031301-generic
I'm using CrossOver Linux 13.1.0 (I just updated this, but bottle was from 13.0.1)

The ffxivgame.ver is showing: 2012.01.01.0000.0000

Still getting the same error...

I tried to install the game through wine and then with crossover. These are the steps i took:
Installed FFXIV with the 13.1 Crossover into a bottle for windows 7, vista, and xp. (I tried all three of them.)
After it was installed i used winetricks to install d3dx9, devenum, ie8, quartz, wininet, winhttp, xact_jun2010, and wmp10
I then edited the files:
wininet native,builtin
urlmon native,builtin
winhttp native,builtin
dinput native
I then proceeded to run the game and it worked on the updater, but it just displays a black screen until i click on it and the background turns white and says maintenance.
Then I tried to copy over the installed files from the windows install into the files in the crossover location. (Still same problem.)
I am using Zorin OS 8 Core which is basically Ubuntu 13.10

Ok so I got it to work finally, but I get stuck at the terms and conditions page and I am unable to click on next button.

Ok so now I can get to the Play button, when I click on it, I get an error message saying to look here for more help, lol.

can you up a screen shot of the error?

Ok so this is the path I took to get to where I am right now.
Step 1 - Installed the most recent AMD driver from the AMD web site for the HD 7850 card using this site https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/AMD (Success)
Step 2 - Created a Bottle of windows XP by installing the software, but cancelled out of the software install to create the bottle. The software wanted to install directx 9. (Success)
Step 3 - Used Winetricks in the terminal - WINEPREFIX=~/.cxoffice/winxp winetricks (Success)
Step 4 - Installed the following DLL and Components - d3dx9 devenum ie8 quartz wininet winhttp xact_jun2010 wmp10 (Success)
Step 5 - Installed FFXIV to the winxp bottle using Crossover (Success)
Step 6 - Tried to run the game and it would not allow me to click on next for the User Agreement.
This gave me an error has occured in the script on this page. HTML Parsing Error: Unable to modify the parent container element before the child element is closed (KB927917) (Failed, but went on to fix this issue with the next Step.)
Step 7 - Opened the FFXIV_BOOT.cfg in the text editor and modified the EulaAgreement and B4EulaAgreement from 0 to 1 and saved the document. (Success)
Step 8 - The launcher loaded up and I got the login screen. I put in the login information and it would not allow me to update. Gave me an error of: Unable to complete version check. [30410][30607][10009][19900][12017] with an OK button. (Failed, but went onto the next step as I have a dual boot system with windows.)
Step 9 - Copied over the FFXIV files from the program files into the crossover C drive for FFXIV. (Success)
Step 10 - I get the Play button and when I click on it and it finally played. I am guessing it is because of my video drivers. (Success)
Step 11 - I copied over the settings from my windows copy except for the display settings. I did not want to copy over the full screen mode just yet. Figured I could set that in the game if i feel brave enough at this point. (Success)
Step 12 - Logged into the game and it does work, I checked these settings and they were already setup from my windows version - "Within the game's graphic settings, enable "Enable HDR rendering and improved overall graphics quality." and disable "Disable rendering of objects when not visible. (Occlusion Culling)" to reduce these undesirable effects." (Success)
Step 13 - Very bad frame rate 10-11 and graphic problems for my AMD card. I also have these setup correctly too.
wininet native,builtin
urlmon native,builtin
winhttp native,builtin
I did not have
dinput native, not sure if this would really help at all.

Is there a way to get the frame rate better or is it my video card? I have a lot of graphic problems like black boxes, colored lines going across the screen. This is with the Beta drivers for the AMD video card for linux. Also if you need an install guide this will work.

its great you got it up and running, not sure about the framerate i run nvidia and i get a "decent" framerate as long as i dont make the window to big, it its fullscreen itll plumit to 1-3fps ... windowed i get anywere from 20-30 its not the best but it lets you run the game with no issues.

My adivce try different windowed sizes see if any work for you, lower anything you dont need, i got rid of the shadings and the motions for all expect me.

Frame Rates in Windowed mode at 1280x720:
Maximum - 5-8 FPS
High (Desktop) - 7-9 FPS
High (Laptop) - 8-10 FPS
Standard (Desktop) - 8-10 FPS
Standard (Laptop) - 8-10 FPS

This is while standing in side of Limsa.

I also tried the lowest settings and still not working that great highest frame rate was 18 when walking and lowest was 6. The graphics started going crazy too. Only thing I can think of is that this is only meant to be played on an nvidia card and not an amd. In windows, I get 60 FPS on maximum.

Edit: I missed a step in the video card drivers and will update this when I get time.

I tried the same install method on a computer that has a NVidia card 260 GTX and it works great with the latest drivers installed. I could even go board less window on the settings for standard. I got a frame rate of 13-28. NVIDIA cards do the job while ATI are not really all that great. Looks like I will need to stick with NVIDIA cards. There were no video glitches with the video card. I will post a very detailed post with exactly what to do to get this game working.

only issue i still get is some anoying flickering but just sometimes

How often does it happen?

id say once every 1-2 hours of game play usually goes away though sometimes around 10-15% of the time it gets that i need to close the app and reload the game

on a side note last update, updated the client without me having to bring it in from a windows machine

Hm, this sounds like ti might be related to the video memory issue that many of the other games on here are having as well. Right now I am currently waiting for my new computer to get here before I continue to test the game in the Linux environment. It will have an 660 GTX Nvidia card and a SSD. Once I get it I will test it out, in the meantime you could try http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=7626;tips=1 and follow the Setting your Video Memory Size tip and trick. Not sure if it would help or not, but I plan on testing it in the next couple of days.

Are the drivers up to date with version 331.49? They were released on 2-18-2014. I noticed that is the usual problem with many video problems. Also do you have two video cards, maybe like an onboard card? I am still learning more about Linux so I am not sure how it will see your video card. You also might want to check to make sure that the video card says that it is an Nvidia in the command prompt. I noticed a lot of forums talk about things with mesa in any part of the description means your video drivers are not installed correctly. It is worth a check.

Edit: You can also use the one from the following:
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=9766;tips=1

This one is not really looking at your video card settings, but fixing what Linux is seeing might help out a lot.

Another Edit: If you are using Ubuntu, make sure Bumblebee is not install or your graphics will be gone. Do a search online for it or go here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2197861

I tried to do the CSMT in the registry. I created a new registry string key and named it CSMT="enabled". This did not increase my FPS on this game. With an Nvidia card I get 30 FPS max while standing and go down to about 15 minimum when moving and fighting. Guess I will wait until the next beta to see if any improvements are made to the program. The game does not update at the very beginning at all. Did not matter what was installed, it may update after the files were imported and I will give an update at that point.

Yes this game does run with some work arounds. Still best to keep a virtual windows or windows partition for the updates.
