Final Fantasy XIV Online Forum

Well its been almost a little over a year now since last thread. so wanted to know if anyone has gotten FFXIV up and running on mac. if any news come up post back greatly appreciated.

Given that Final Fantasy XIV is currently not running (the game has been taken down until FFXIV 2.0: A Realm Reborn is released), it's not easy to get it working in Codeweavers (as there isn't a game), not to mention that the whole game is going to change.

ARR is currently in private beta, true, but any users would need to break their non-disclosure agreements to discuss getting it working with Codeweavers.

I'd guess that work will start on getting FFXIV working when the game releases or enters public beta.

While the game is in closed bata right now and I can't talk about that, what I can say is that I got 1.0 to work on a mac, but not with codeweaver. Using Winery you would create a fresh "wineskin" for the game and and then apply the ie8 and winhttp winetricks and it would work very close to perfectly! Now anyone who has read about 2.0 knows that they have changed out the engine, so hopefully it will work better with WINE/Crossover/whatever in the end, but I can't say one way or another at the moment^^;

Near perfectly? and not perfectly? Was it due to actual system specs? or just due to Wine not running it well?

It was actually no different from the client on windows. The client was notoriously unstable, so every now and then it would crash out.

I can't remember if the NDA has lifted on the beta for 2.0 or not yet... but when it does I'll give another update^^

Keep in mind any updates to this thread must be about the newest version only, Beta info will remain under NDA.
