Hey can anyone please help me!!!

i installed the FFXI from point one to end i have cross over games mac 9.0.0 but it install good i can register my account just fine but when i go to start the game right before choosing my char. i get error 020 so hmm i read about it and some people say uninstall and reinstall. i tryed but the game wont uninstall??? also when i try to make the screen bigger on playonline it freezes or goes all black.

I'm not sure about the 020 error, but I know about your issue with PlayOnline when you change the window size. In Windows, the PlayOnline window doesn't allow you to change its size, so when you try to do it CXG, it freaks out. Do a full un- and re-install of PlayOnline and you should be fine.

Now for your uninstalling problem. Try to uninstall it from the bottle control panel. That is what I had to do to get it working last time I did an uninstall. If that doesn't work, delete the bottle and start over with a fresh one. Make sure to follow the instructions and tips we have posted here. If you have other apps installing the in same bottle, manually delete the POL directory, then create a new Vista bottle and start over using the newest client from the FFXI website.

If you have any more problems, post back here. Someone here should be able to help you out.

okay so i have the recollection version of the game and 9.0.0 for crossover so i followed the method of the 7.0.1 version it said o use winxp so i did but i really dont know which one will work one hundred %.

and as for the window going black cant i use the ffxi config to do it? but prob is when i open it, all i get is a small screen with nothing to adjust just the default, help and done button?

is there anyone who can make a video of how to exactly do it from step one to finish i think a video will help alot of people.

Thank you!

Use this guide instead of the one you were using. The older guides are out of date due to changes to WINE/CXG, POL, and FFXI.

FFXI config doesn't work under WINE/CXG, so any config changes have to be made directly to the registry.

PS Thanks for bringing to my attention that older guide. I've moved it down to the bottom of the Tips list so people don't follow it by mistake.

okay thank you ill try to follow it. so how exactly do i get to the registry ?

Please read the post I linked in my last post. It will give you step by step instructions on what to do.

I did and it failed :( i did it all, i even un install and re install the whole game i still get error 020 and when i try to make the screen bigger it freezes and goes black i been at this since 8pm last night. i tried like about 8 new bottles and still no luck. ugh :(((

Zak Adelman wrote in another thread:

"I know this is late but it is a registry problem. If you have a version of the game that installs a EU or JP version the registry keys are incomplete.

Under :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PlayOnlineXX\InstallFolder , The XX should either be US or EU unless you have the Japanese version.
make sure string key :
0001 C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ , is in place. This tells POL where to find the game so if you installed it in a different place than default change the path to the correct one. I am not sure why it does this but it just started recently."

Locate the string key he is referring to (0001) and make sure it has the correct path to your game directory. In general I'd advise against installing in a different location than the default - because of this issue I suppose hehe.
Make sure that the XX Zak is referring to is either US or EU.

Keith Brantley and Jen in the thread Zak posted this advise in seem to have had the same problem, but have presumably found a fix since I guess. Perhaps Zak's advise is what it took to crack this issue.

How do you change the xx, and where do u find it?

Nevermind about looking for the xx but i noticed i had 2 playonline folders in the registry i had a playonlineUS and a playonlineEU. the US had the string value 0001 but the EU did not what i did is made a new string in EU and put the same thing in. so i loged back on to play online and i dont get the error 020 anymore. As im typing this im doing the updates for the game so idk if ill be getting any problems. Also i would like to make the windowed size a bit bigger any help on that that would be great. Thank you for helping me out guys :D

Another problem :( i got passed the error 020 i did all the updates, but now im getting a problem with POL i have no idea what to do? i get this problem after or better said right b4 the open movie that FFXI has?

Disable the opening movie. For some reason I remember someone saying it caused problems. Keep in mind you will have to do this through the registry.

it is disabled? i followed ur registry steps.

Make sure it is. Check registry value 0022. Make sure it is set to 0.

Also, are you running the game at the proper resolution for your monitor/screen? You might want to try and set it to something like 800x600 and see if the problem continues. You can run FFXI in Windowed Mode, which makes it easier to go back and forth between the instructions and the game. I can say from personal experience that is does work.

PS The thread about changing settings through the registry was not made by me. I'm just here to help point people in the right direction and give advice that worked for me.

okay i did set the 0022 to 0 but how do i make it 800/600??

From the thread about configuring FFXI through registry:

0001 Display mode width (X)
0002 Display mode height (Y)

Set 0001 to 800 and 0002 to 600. See if it works. If it does, pump up to the next resolution your monitor/screen can handle. Keep moving up until you reach the size you want or it starts crashing again.

Please read through the configuration thread carefully as most of your questions could have been answered if you read over it.
