Runs basically like it would natively on PC.
My specs:
MacBook Pro 4.2 (fall 2007)
XP bottle:
CrossOver HTML Engine (default)
Microsoft XML Parser
Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0
Microsoft DirectX Runtime - Modern
Core Fonts
To get this running smoothly I pretty much did what is already mentioned on this board.
-
Install the above apps in a fresh XP bottle.
-
Reboot bottle
-
Launched wine config (cfg)
-
Set dxdiagn to (native, built-in)
-
Set Allow for decorate, control windows under the graphics tab, plus emulate virtual desktop and resolution to 1280x768 (my display is: 1440x900)
-
Launched the windows registry editor (programs > run command > "regedit" > run)
-
Navigated to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/PlayOnlineUS/SquareEnix/FinalFantasyXI
-
Added the following new string value if not already present: padmode000 with values (0, 0, 0, 0) (Google this and change it accordingly if you need the built-in gamepad functionality, however from my experience it doesn't work, I found a another workaround that I will elaborate on later).
Also added new string value if not already present: padsin000 with values (4,6,11,7,10,2,0,1,3,8,-1,-1,9,33,33,32,32,34,34,37,37,41,41,40,40,-1,-1)
It basically attempts to configure the gamepad by default I think.
Note: Change string 0034 to decimal value 1 instead of 0 in order to enable FFXI window mode - But doesn't make the game run in my case... -
Set up my gamepad using Controllermate from orderedbytes.com
Note: If you need to use a gamepad, it can be set up up using Controllermate to work just like it would if you were using the FFXI built-in gamepad support, but this did take me ALOT of time to figure out how.
The game runs, from my experience, completely flawless except for a small texture issue when near lit lamp posts in particular places such as the gates in Bastok, San d'Oria, Jeuno guidestone... It displays the light, but at a lower resolution than normal, plus the light reflected onto nearby walls show a crackling texture. Doesn't affect the game at all.
I have been playing FFXI this way through CrossOver Games 8.1 (8.0 wouldn't run it) for 6 months now, and I will give it a superb Honorable Mention for sure!
I will post videos of the gameplay soon. As soon as I find a good alternative to QuickTime X's horrible screen recording feature (can only record 15fps :( )
If you have any problems running this, and I bet you do, you can email me at briannielsen@me.com. Especially if you need to set up Controllermate with a gamepad for use in FFXI, I can help you good.
