Which set of steps did you use?
Also, what version of PlayOnline are you using?
I used Matthew Lai's Guide which worked well, it was successful on my first attempt:
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?forum=1;app_id=22;mhl=45719;msg=45719
and i downloaded the windows vista version from the Playonline webpage. Its just the trial period would that be the problem? I mean everything updated.
The vista version of PlayOnline is needed as it is the only one that works with CX/WINE right now. As long as you have a PlayOnline account created, you shouldn't have to use the trail.
Also, where does the error message come up: When trying to launch FFXI from PlayOnline or from its own icon? If its from the icon, try launching from PlayOnline. Also try rebooting the bottle. I think I remember having something like this happen when I first installed everything and updates.
The error occurs once ive already logged into the game. It's right before im allowed to choose and create the character, right after the "warning" where it reminds you not to forget your friends, life, work and school. I'll try to reset the bottle once the manage window stops gathering info on the bottle.
Just did a bit of research on your error code. Seems the issue is with PlayOnline and FFXI, not CXG. Make sure all expansions that you have registered are installed properly.
Thank you so much and sorry for the delayed response, i've been gone this month. The error code was for an improper installation of a file. It was just a late night and i think i was trying to do to much in a short period of time. Thanks again for the help :)
Heya, I downloaded the Final Fantasy Ultimate Collection thing from Steam, and I could play right after I had downloaded and installed it, but after a day, this message came up when I tried to launch the game :( I'm not very good at the computer, but what do you mean by an improper installation of a file, and how did you fix this or find the file that's not proper installed^^ Thanks for help :)
Your best bet is to uninstall everything and do a full re-install. I had to do that myself. It sucks, but its the only sure fire way to get it working.
I know this is late but it is a registry problem. If you have a version of the game that installs a EU or JP version the registry keys are incomplete.
Under :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PlayOnlineXX\InstallFolder , The XX should either be US or EU unless you have the Japanese version.
make sure string key :
0001 C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ , is in place. This tells POL where to find the game so if you installed it in a different place than default change the path to the correct one. I am not sure why it does this but it just started recently.
I was also having this same problem, so I tried editing the registry key as discussed.
However, I found an interesting problem. When I opened HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PlayOnlineUS\InstallFolder (since I'm in the US), the key was already there. I thought nothing of it, tried launching the game again, failed again, and opened my registry again. That's when I noticed that I PlayOnlineEU also exists in my registry, and this one was missing the key mentioned above. When I created the key, Final Fantasy launched just fine. (Or, I think just fine. I'm still installing updates, but I got further than before.)
Since it seems that I'm running the EU version of the game, will there be any problems? If so, how would I get it to use the US version instead?
FYI, my Mac's regional settings are all set for the United States, and I checked the Windows registry settings for the bottle, and they seem to show the US as well, so I don't know from where it's pulling the EU information.
I am not sure why it is doing it either, I am ok with it thinking it should be EU and then setting it to US on the first start up but this will be confusing for people not used to having to do registry edits. You should not find any issues.
