Getting the game working well.

I have the game working almost flawlessly.

I am using the "OffscreenRenderingMode" tip from the Tips & Tricks

Also after browsing through the WineHQ app db I found suggestions about the dxdiagn.dll, here's what I did.

In Winecfg, goto Libaries, select dxdiagn.dll, set it to Native (Windows).
Also in Winecfg, set the mode to Vista.

With these settings in place, I have now been logged in for 30+ hours to Vana'diel w/o the any problems with the game.

/hurray, no more Windows!

Are you using version 8.0 and Snowleopard? if so, can you post a guide?

thank you

According to his advocate rating icon if is a penguin not a cat. If I can get it running I will try and post something but so far I am having no luck. (8.0.0 + SL)

For the record I can get it installed and after making the registry keys I can get the game to start but once I get past the "Accept" screen it just stays black and never seems to recover.

I too had the same problem with running FFXI in 8.0 and Snow Leopard.

But now I got FFXI to work!

I used that "OffscreenRenderingMode" trick, and set pol.exe to run in Win Vista.

Aside from that I also changed the background res to 1024 x 1024, and screen res (size) to 1280 x 1024.

That got me in really fast.

I hadn't the same luck.

Only time I was able to make FFXI start correctly was with 7.2.2 and MacOSX 10.5.7

Since I switched to an Imac with 8.0 and Snow leoaprd 10.6.1 I'm always getting Wine crash window. What drives me crazy is sometimes the game STARTS after that very crash window!!

And yes, I tried the Offscreen trick etc.

Do you run fullscreen or windowed mode?

Well I can't even get POL to open consistently. I have to swap full screen and windowed in POL viewer options and even then it won't run. I tried and tried but after months of this I decided I had to give it a rating :(

EDIT: Same deal with the WINE crash window here too. It will run every time I get it, weird.
