Issues With 8.0

I noticed that the new version of CrossOver Mac (8.0) just launched, so I thought I'd try it out to see if there have been any improvements in regard to Final Fantasy XI. My subscription to CrossOver ran out a while ago, and this is really the only game I'm interested in playing. I don't want to purchase it again until I'm sure the game will run to my satisfaction.

The problem I am running into is that I am no longer able to run any version of CrossOver older than 8.0. They close as soon as I run them (I have tried 7.1, 7.2., and 7.2.2). I need to be able to run version 7.1 alongside 8.0, as the bug with the FFXI Config is still present and accounted for. I am unsure as to whether or not this is an issue with my system, but I'm thinking it is due to Snow Leopard (I just installed it yesterday and have a hunch that it is the culprit). If this is the case, then anyone who installed Snow Leopard will end up having the same problem. Unless they have FFXI already installed and set to their personal specifications, installing and running the game properly will not be possible.

Is there any chance that the FFXI Config bug will be fixed shortly? And while I ask about that, is there a chance that keypad support may be added to CrossOver soon? Before I put down the cash for 8.0, I want to be sure that it's going to do what I want it to do.

Thanks in advance to whomever may take the time to research and/or reply to this post.

Hi Jonny,
As far as I can figure there seems to be lots of applications that do not run well with Snow Leopard including any version of CrossOver prior to 8.0.

FFXI is not working on CrossOver 8.0 for the moment but its been getting better since their first build of 8.0 so I believe its just a matter of time before everything starts working in order again. As for the FFXIconfig, you may want to check some posts on the forum about changes in the windows registry that saves you from having to go back and forth from 7.2.1 and 8.0.

I'm also waiting for a support for gamepads. It seems that Controllermate from www.orderedbytes.com is the only answer for now.
It would be so much easier if I could just plug in my PS2 controller and have it work without having to program everything.

It's true that CrossOver [Games] 8.0 is the first version that supports running on Snow Leopard. We have an article in our support library that gives a gross, hacky technique you can try to get 7.2.x working. I don't think even that will be enough for 7.1.x.

CrossOver Games 8 does support gamepads! (Or, at least, it should.) The device has to conform to the USB HID standard or have a Mac OS X driver. (For example, Xbox 360 controllers don't conform to the HID standard and you have to install a Mac driver to get them to work.) Some games rely on XInput rather than DirectInput for gamepad support, and unfortunately CrossOver still doesn't support XInput.
