PlayOnline Viewer isn't working

I just installed Fedora 11 and the very first thing I set out to do is get FFXI working. I try through regular Wine and I get through all the installations and everything is going wonderfully until I actually try to open the POL Viewer. At that point it pops open for a second, then crashes.

So then I try using CrossOver Games. Again everything installs smoothly and I follow all the instructions on the various different compatibility posts on this website. Still, the same thing happens. This time I catch a glimpse of the opening screen before the whole virtual desktop collapses with the POL Viewer.

I'm not sure where to find log files at this point and I am frustrated to the point of giving up.

I can try to provide any information needed, but please, I implore you, the reader, help me.

Upon a little bit of fiddling I have it open, but frozen. The music plays but it doesn't do anything. I set the OffscreenRenderingMode string to backbuffer instead of fbo, which is suggested in a post on the winehq website relating to an issue that looks like mine. Still nothing on it actually working, though. Baby steps.

Just a query...what videocard/drivers are you using?

I run an NVidia 8 series, I haven't specifically installed drivers because in the past it's done nothing but given me headaches in Linux. This card has been nothing but a problem for me in Linux. I'm about to install the drivers off the NVidia website, though!

Yeah...nvidia's drivers would be the next thing I'd try here,
and I must say they've not ever given me too much trouble in
linux....also, which wine did you try?...stable? (1.0.1) You
could also try the devel wine (1.1.25) to cover all bases (;
