Crashing when I enter combat

Hello community!

I have downloaded this game as I was happy to see a FF title that I haven't played much on PS1.

But - I have an issue: Everytime I enter combat my screen freezes and I have to force quit the game. Any solution to this? Have any of you guys encountered the same thing?

I have downloaded the game via Steam and run it through the crosstie on this website.

Yeah, I have the same problem accessing FF8 through Steam using CrossOver.
FF7 worked fine but FF8 is not working as I enter the battle.
