controls

using the latest version of crossover games and with some playing with the configuration here and there. i got this great game resurrected on m macbook my only issue is that the macbook has no numeric keypad as you know thats where there controls for this games is located is there a fix for this or do you have to use a usb keyboard to fix this

Unfortunately the controls (as far as I know) are only based on the numpad. Some keyboards have a numpad enabling feature which should work. I haven't tried a usb numeric keypad so I cannot confirm that, but it should work. Perhaps there is a program that can simulate a numpad?

I don't have a MacBook here, but many other laptops have a numpad built into their keyboard, overlayed over the regular keys and activated using the numlock keys. The numlock key can usually be reached with an Fn button combination.

There may also be Mac Keyboard layouts out there that fake a numpad.

I'm impressed that you got it up and running on your MBP (I've been trying the same thing here, with no luck). Eidos has a numeric keypad patch (for laptops), though holding down the Fn key also works (though I suspect during actual gameplay it would get tiring).

I tried installing it into a fresh Win98 and WinXP bottle, and told it to install DirectX 5.0 and DirectShow. If I choose Software rendering, the opening movie doesn't play, but at least I can get to the New/Continue menu and choose New (at which point it goes black again, so I can't tell what's going on).

What settings/install procedure did you use to get it running fully?

Mr Mathurin, if there is any info you can give about how you got this to run, I could really use your input. I can get it to run but I can't get past where you load the game. Any help would be appreciated.

The issue you are haveing is most likely a problem with the TM20 video codec. True Motion 2.0 was pretty much only used for FFVII so most systems don't have it. You need to track down a copy of this codec for your system to see the videos. The black screen after the New Game is where the opening video should be... if you wait the right length of time the game should start.
