Hello all. When I try to install Fallout 1 or 2 on my Macbook Pro 2015 using Crossover, the GOG windows pops up and everything goes smoothly until the end where it says "Invalid runtime" and "Out of global vars range". What does this mean and how can I fix it? I have tried installing Dotnet40 and Xna40 onto the bottle but I get the same error. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

P.S: Im running it on a Windows 10 bottle.

This may surprise you but I get these messages all the time. I have learned to ignore them and have found that virtually every game that complains of these install problems works perfectly anyway. I have over 100 GOG games onboard and they virtually all say the same when I install them. But they all work anyway. I suspect the installers are not constructed to recognize WINE/CrossOver, all they see are Windows protocols.

I understand.... but it isn't working for me. When I launch it it just shows up in the dock for a second and disappears. Can you help?

Delete the Windows 10 bottle and reinstall in Windows 7 bottle. That solved the problem for me. With these older games the older bottles frequently work best. Windows 10 often creates problems for these older apps. Hope it works for you!!! 😉

Thanks for this, it worked but now there's a new problem. The game launches up fine, but when I click "play", the game just closes and removes itself from my dock. Which is the exact same thing that happened before I installed directx. If I launched it, it would open for a second and then close. Any help?

Try these installers rather than GOG...https://www.old-games.com/download/6235/fallout-2, https://www.old-games.com/download/6093/fallout. These games are produced by Abandonware, they are the original games but nearly always have all that is needed to install and activate with minimal issues. I generally use Abandonware for these Old Games.https://www.myabandonware.com/browse/genre/ I really think that this site is a better alternative for the truly old games than GOG. The curator and participants are real lovers of the games and strive to assure they will work on virtually any modern PC System. 😎

Send me an email address and I will upload an installer for Fallout 1. Fallout 2 even with the patches will not run…period! Other testers have found the same. GOG acknowledges the problem too. You can contact me at michaelservetus@icloud.com.

I just tried to run the version installed in one of my bottles. It is the GOG version installed in a Windows XP bottle and was installed in an earlier version of Crossover. Running the File "Fallout 2" created by Crossover resulted in a crash but running "fallout2.exe" via the Run command worked and I could play the game.

edited to add: I just remembered that GOG sells several different versions of Fallout 1 and 2; mine is the original that they took off the shelves at some point but then replaced/substituted with a newer one later on...but it is possible to run these 2 games in Crossover20.

I have Fallout 1 and Fallout Tactics running but I cannot find any way to run Fallout 2. The installer created a launcher but it quits as soon as it is launched. Running from the Command results in a reinstall as it does in Fallout Tactics. In Fallout Tactics the game launches and can be played. I tried Fallout 2 again in Vista 64 bit, Vista, and Windows 2000 and the game will not launch. I downloaded the updaters and installed them with the same failed result. Did you do something different to get Fallout 2 to work? What OS are your running? I'm running Catalina 10.15.7 and until this particular game I have had no major problems. Please share any secrets!!! 😊
