Like I said, I installed it without problems using the latest version of CO.

I got to the splash screen and checked my settings, etc. (I put low at first, so there would be no problem), and hit PLAY.

The main menu loaded perfectly. I can go through it without problems.

But when I hit New Game, it starts loading, then freezes and then quits. The "fallout3.exe has encountered a serious problem, blablabla, had to quit" window appeared.

This happens to me sometimes while playing other games.

Is there a way around it?

I'm getting the same issue. I've got CO 9.2 and OS X 10.6.4. Anybody got around it?

Have you tried disabling Games For Windows Live? There is a link in the tips and tricks. Also, I would recommend running the game from the default settings then pull it back one level if needed. This game seems to have an anomaly where if you set it too low running wine it won't run as well, especially in VATS.

Tried both of those, but I'm still getting the error/freeze while loading a new game.

This is a very common bug. Firstly, try patching. Then try running it in windowed mode.

I have the same issue with GOTY (AFAIK - it's latest version)
Fedora 13 x32, CO 9.1 and 9.2, GFWL disabled
Windowed\fullscreen mode, default\high\low settings - I have tried everything.

Yeah, GOTY does have the latest patch. Is this with steam or the discs? Ensure you have the latest video driver. Be sure you have the prerequisites installed VCredist 2008 and .net 2/3. If this is the steam version check the tips and tricks for the alternate how to.
