F22 Lightning 3 did not display any issues when installed via the Steam interface,
however running the game has a couple of issues;
Due to it's age, you have a choice of 2 video driver options ingame...direct3d and
3dfx voodoo glide (uses opengl). The direct3d driver operates at directx-6 level,
and if selected no accelerated D3D hardware device is detected. If you enable the
hardware accelerated D3D setting, the game will only run at 640x480 resolution. I
will have a longer look at this soon and see if there's any work-around. I have a
strong suspicion this game (and it's builtin rendering drivers) are going to act
differently depending on your OS and videocard specs - my testing was done in linux
using a gf9400gt (512mb) and nvidia drivers v190.53
The actual installation procedure I used was this simple ;
- Purchase the game via Steam using my system's default web-browser (firefox 3.5.x)
- Install the Steam client via the cxinstallwizard builtin target (if not already installed)
- Start the Steam client, login and download/install the F22 Lightning 3 software
- Launch the game
Only tested so far with an analog joystick connected to a PC gameport (emu10k1_gp).
Will check the USB HIDs a bit later...
Only just gets a silver first time out because ostensibly everything works and the game
itself runs fine without any crashes thus far...
Cheers!
