oh dang, that one...
after reading up on your ticket, here's my 50 cents worth...
i used to get it randomely. sometimes it would be within 5 minutes of standing in PoK. while other times i'd be running across a zone. i once thought it was because i was on a mount but a month into it i found that it had nothing to do with it. believe me when i tell you i feel your pain lol...
Crossover isn't specifically designed to handle EQ. support does what they can do with the resources they have to address the problem the best they can... that sounds almost rehearsed.
the short version. just because a new version comes out doesn't mean it's the best thing for EQ. i have kept 13 versions of crossover and found that some are more stable than others. regrettably, i can't tell you which ones were the most stable, i never kept notes on that, though 8.1.3 rings a bell. ;-/
maybe they would make older versions available for you to try? i also know that OS 10.6.3 threw a wrench into things. i think crossover 9.2.1, the latest copy i've been using, has been decent.
oh! oh! now i remember something else... yes, i tend to think as i type... the setting you choose to use have a big impact on this. one decent observation i've been able to make is...
as your video becomes taxed the probability of getting the said error goes through the roof. i've done a lot of testing with this. i've noticed that the more fancy stuff you do, caching and buffering, the worse it gets. there's also some place where you can modify the aperture of the video card, aka addressable ram, i reduced mine. and things got better.
what's the cost during game play?
well, you can actually watch as textures are added. you'll often see people run around without any close on, rather funny to see the level of detail Sony's put into their models lol. you get used to it and it's kind of entertaining lol.
the problem with all of this, including the support you are or are not getting is that it's all very complicated and difficult to recreate. that might be partly due to the fact that we're mixing up Microsoft gunk, Sony gunk, and Apple gunk all in the same bowl. it's actually very impressive that it works as well as it does.
well... hope that helps a little and sorry if i seem to ramble a little, k, a lot lol 😉
