Crossover Games 8 vs. EverQuest - your experiences?

I just want to gather some experiences from everyone with running EQ in CG8, and we could do this for each major release of CG to keep updated on what works, what doesn't and what each new version helps fix. It could be beneficial both to us using CG and to the developers. If you think I missed something, please feel free to add it :) So, without further ado…

My setup:
Machine: Macbook Pro
CPU: Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz
Graphics: Ati Radeon X1600 128MB
RAM: 4GB
OS: Mac OS X 10.6.1 (Snow Leopard)
CG version: 8.0.0

My experiences:

  • Felt like it loaded faster than before, both when loading the character select and zoning.
  • Didn't get any graphics "glitches", and all textures seemed to load fine (all Luclin models, all environment textures) except for a couple models in particular - sokokar and scrykin are the ones I have noticed so far. Went to SoD zones, no issues with environment textures.
  • Some lag on mouselook, not much but noticeable.

I will test more later and update. I will also try installing it on my Mac Mini when I get some time.

Please post your own specs and experiences in this thread.

My setup:
Machine: iMac
CPU: C2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
RAM: 4GB 800 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM
OS: Mac OS X 10.5.8
CG version: 8.0.0

My experiences:

  • possibly the most stable version yet! i've been running it 24/7 since its release. think it might have crashed twice in that time.
  • there are a few graphics glitches that have carried over from previous version. the textures seem to get swapped out with others or it's like every other pixel is shown, i'll try to include a screen shot of these soon, somehow lol... how about this... http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2037353&id=1129611182&l=290efdeb3a
  • i can finally use advanced lighting and not crash!
  • two boxing seems to be less stable

side note: sometimes it's difficult determining if a perceived glitch is Cross Over or simply Everquest. i try to only mention glitches that i've never experienced on my PC.

more soon 😉

i installed the game from my disks and i got it to patch, i can log in and play the game for about 10-30 min then the game freezes, i really wish they would fully support this game, it still highly played and deserves support.

my experience has continued to be good though recently EQ has been crashing again. i haven't patch my host OS. the only thing that's been going on is the normal EQ patches. i'm starting to wonder if it's possible for a bottle's integrity to deteriorate over time? maybe there's some limitations that i'm tripping over?

i still get freaky graphics but simply reload and i'm good.
in the past week i've had the seemingly random freeze of the app.

what i'm going to try...
a) new bottle and copy the EQ folder
b) new bottle and new EQ installation, this one's painful ;-/

hope to give some feedback within the week 😉
