Everquest load screen blank after crossover 22 upgrade

Hello,
EQ had been working fine, then after I upgraded to Cross over Version 22.0 (22.0.0.35473) the loading screen is now blank. Right now, this isn't a huge deal as the elements still seem to work. As long as I can find and "click" the invisible play button in the bottom corner, it forwards to the next screen (server select) and that displays fine.

I tried to install a second bottle just to see if things would still be blank. They are, only on this screen I can't see to login or do anything. So I wasn't able to guess the fields I need to sign in or anything.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this? I didn't see logs from the secondary install, I 'll look at the other original bottle for logs and see if I find anything interesting

My machine is a Mac Studio - M1 pro

EDIT:
Found these in the Cefinternal.log - I think they may be gfx related? Not sure if this is an actual problem or not

Hi there,

If you revert to CrossOver 21.2, does the issue persist? But either way, I recommend opening a support ticket for assistance.

Best,
Meredith

Hi! Thanks for your response and suggestion!

I didn't do a full reinstall, but I did download Version 21.2 (21.2.0.33926) and let it recopy files over. The original EQ install still had messed up loading screen, but when I created a new bottle and installed EQ into it, everything appeared fine again.

Having this exact issue, getting direct x error when installing, and then just a black box at launcher screen. I'm unable to proceed. I assume a crossover 22 / ventura update issue. Not able to play EQ until this is resolved, which I'm sure likely not to receive any response.

Hi there,

I would suggest entering a ticket for assistance from one of our staff members, but you don't seem to have a CrossOver license? Please don't complain about support you haven't even paid for.

Best,
Meredith

No disrespect was intended, however I WAS interested in purchasing this, and did not receive any response to a thread previous with multiple people experiencing same issue. Kind of difficult to purchase something that doesn't work during trial period.

run with option --disable-gpu will fix this also I put in a support ticket.

This is a Ventura issue I just tested Ventura 13.3 beta and the issue is corrected.

This is still occurring on Ventura 13.4.1 with Crossover 22.1.1 - Running EQ with --disable-gpu seems to fix it.

Hi folks,

This should be working just fine if you install EverQuest by searching for and installing "EverQuest" through CrossOver. If that's not working, please enter a ticket.

Meredith

Yea so DX11 was just released and I have not been abled to get EverQuest running. The previous bottle using windows 7 is no longer supported and are forced to use windows 10. Reinstalled with various options toggle. Can't get it to work.

Having this same issue and it’s probably due to the update to EverQuest from Tuesday which made updates to use DX11 for the UI. The error from dbg.log was:
Fatal error occured in mainthread (Release Client #630)

This happens for Win10 64 bit bottles.

I was able to run the game on Win7 bottles but only if I enabled luclin models in the game config which I don’t like but it’s something.

The game used to be on dx9 if I recall properly so I feel like this needs to get looked into for M1 / Mac users

Okay, I got it working with my windows 7 install. I had to install DXVK and it worked instantly. So far no issues! Scratch that, NPC and weapon models don't all load. It's consistent on which models.

yeah, ive begun to crash on the win7 bottle as of today -- EverQuest is no longer stable/working on crossover 22.1 and below.

Hi folks,

A fresh install should work fine: we made updates to the CrossTie that should allow the game to work. You can also reach out to our support team for assistance in making changes to an existing install.

What bottle/settings should we use for a fresh install?

Just tried a win10 64-bit bottle fresh reinstall and the game crashes shortly after I click play.. which is the same as before. Crossover 22.1

EverQuest requires DX11 as of the last update and I only noticed Crossover installing up to DX10. Could this be the issue?

I followed the "fresh install" guidance above - while I no longer get the graphics cards not supported error message, I log into a completely black screen and the app auto-quits after about 2 minutes.

I'm running on a MacBook OSX Big Sur with Crossover version 23.7.1

I tried from a fresh bottle and it does NOT work. Please provide step by step because a fresh Win10 x64 bottle and installing the game via the bottle in CrossOver just leads to a black screen after patching all 13GB.

I've been able to do a fresh bottle by using Windows 7 64-bit and installing DXVK then enabling it. There are some zones that crash on me, right now my druid is stuck in PoP and game crashes when I try to log in on him.

Hi folks,

To clarify, you need to search for "EverQuest" within CrossOver and install that way.

Meredith

Are you actually patching the game, and logging in with an EverQuest account to log in game, creating a character, and loading into the world? The patcher loads fine, but that isn't the game.

Agree with the above poster....this isn't working.

I performed a fresh install of Crossover AND I installed EverQuest through the Crossover app (I'm not downloading an .exe file and pointing the installer there).

Whatever cross-tie you guys may have adjusted in the background, doesn't allow you to load into the game.

What would be more helpful is to post what files we should have and in what directory so we can double check they are properly installed.

Yeah this does not work...spent 2 hours creating and deleting different bottles to get this to work....

Clearly something in the new DX11 build of EQ is not playing nice with Crossover..

using window 7 you can get some zones to run, but as soon as you move a character into the guildhall or high traffic zone, it will crash and keep you from logging back into that zone.

I would think it must be having an issue with how much memory it is using for video memory. If you edit the .ini file you can keep textures from loading up on characters, and FORCE a toon to load up in high traffic zones (people look like grey box snowmen), but it will still crash every time you zone into another high traffic zone, forcing you to log back in again.

Of course in low traffic zones...it runs as flawlessly as it always did before EQ had its dx11 patch.

2/10/24 -- EverQuest is Still broken on Crossover

20/02/2024 - Still broken, tried new bottle. Was nice whilst it lasted right :)

Crossover 23.7.1 is working for me on a 10th gen intel mac after reinstalling with a fresh bottle (previous was prior to dx11). Textures are slow to load and occasionally a texture won't load.

Same issue with CX24. Works with DXVK but some textures (namely old ones) are not rendered and appear white.
