Have everquest working fine on mac, but with a few caveats..heres what I did

Hi

Just wanted to post what I did to get things to run fine for me, i have a macbook running crossover 12.0

1) Installation (From a previous thread, thanks to those that helped out)

Winxp bottle
Directx 9
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable
Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0
True Type Fonts

2) Install everquest using the downloadable installer

3) Update everything

4) When in game you may notice some NPC's not showing, you need to turn off the hardware shaders (4 tick boxes in the graphics options). These will now show

5) The right shift key doesn't work

6) Touch to click on the track pad doesn't work, you need to physically click

I'd say its probably rated as a Gold now as everything seems to work fine with the above

Hi Peter, thanks a lot for sharing your expertise. I'm trying to follow your instructions on my Mac (10.6.8) but it's not working for me - can you help?

First, I made a WinXP bottle and tried to install DirectX (from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 ). When it asked me where to extract the files, I made a temp folder just for Directx in the bottle's folder. The Crossover install finished. I then ran dxsetup.exe (necessary?), which ran through Crossover again. It appeared to finish successfully. I added the other programs you listed to the bottle. However, as I started to install EQ, another DirectX installer window came up. When I told it to go ahead and install, it failed with the message "An internal system error occurred. Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your Windows folder to determine problem." [sic] I noticed DirectX did not show up in the Installed Applications in the Crossover window (should it?).
I let the EQ installer continue anyway to see what would happen. When it was about to finish, it gave me the error "Unable to write to C:/Program Files/Sony Online Entertainment/Installed Games/EverQuest/warslikswood_obj.s3d - http://eq.patch.station.sony.com/patch/sha/eq/eq.sha.zs/b6/a63/5bf0b1187eaa210025edfb5c4c0290cf50c. The file may be in use or you may lack the necessary permissions to install."
I shrugged and hit the "Retry" button (where Login/Play usually is) and it downloaded (patched?) another 250-odd MB. I hit "Play" and got the error "The program eqgame.exe has encountered a serious error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Any tips? Is it an issue with DirectX?

Also, where did you get these TrueType fonts? I downloaded 11 fonts one-by-one. Are they available as a package somewhere?
