Think it's graphics

I successfully installed EQ and got it running on our iMac. Right now it's in a box, because we're moving and I was trying to get EQ to work on my MacBook Pro. It's 2.6 GHz, 4GB Ram and uses a GeoForce 8600M GT. I am not very good at understanding all that stuff about the technical stuff. :) But I went to the options for EQ, because every time I zone into or out of a zone, the EQ Client crashes. It's whenever I try to log into my main character mainly, who is in PoK. If I go to my trader first, who's in the bazaar, it doesn't crash immediately. If I try to leave PoK with my main, it crashes. It says something about the C+++ Library, which I still haven't found any information on it. When I went to the "Game Options" I saw what MIGHT be a problem. It only shows the video card listed as "Direct3D HAL" which I really do not think is the one integrated on this machine. :) I'm sure that's a no brainer for some of you. Also I remember looking at changing the options on our iMac and it showed the video card that is installed in that machine. So..My question is, do you think this is what is making the EQ Client crash, because it's not a good driver for one. If so, do you think there is a way to fix this problem, so that I can change it to the correct video card?

Thanks for your help! You all helped me to get it to run on our iMac. :D I followed all your instructions and I appreciate it!

I have the same MacBook Pro as you do. In EVE online, I have a black display where rendered graphics should be. My video card also shows as Direct3D HAL. I'm not sure if that's important, but I figured I'd mention it just in case.

I know its a bit of a late response, but I can say that the Direct3D HAL thing is completely normal. The application looks for the video driver installed within wine, which the video driver within wine is connected to your real video drivers. So, no worries there. Did you ever get it working?

"Direct3D HAL" is our 3D hardware name string. I don't know where it comes from, it has been in place in Wine since all the time I know it.

Someone sent a patch to Wine that added a registry key to provide a custom name in case a game causes problems. That will be automatically in the future CrossOver versions. However, I don't think the name "Direct3D HAL" causes problems here.
