The game installed fine, but when I click on it to launch the game the EQ2 icon pops up in the bottom right of the doc. It hangs there for about 4 seconds, then is closes. No errors or anything, just wont launch.

I'm having the same issue. Running the latest CrossOver (16.2.5.30228 at the time of writing) on my 2015 iMac. It has worked beautifully for almost a year and then suddenly my EQ2 stopped working about a month or so ago. I've reinstalled EQ2 numerous times under all the bottle types. I've completely removed and reinstalled CrossOver as well. No change. It appears DBG's EQ2 launcher now rejects any WinXP installs. Where the default (and most complete install) via CrossOver uses an WinXP bottle, are there updates that need to be made to the bottle types? Anybody know which settings are needed for a fresh install?
So it's been broken for 2 months now and not a peep from CodeWeavers on an update to EQ2. This is the ONLY Windows application I use and my only reason for paying for Crossover. If it's not resolved soon, they will loose me as a paying subscriber. Turning into an overall Unhappy customer now :(
Hi,
the game works fine for me, though I've had to switch to wine-staging 2.12, and I'm on Linux. Make sure Core Fonts is installed first, since EQ2 and the patcher crashes and burns without it. Otherwise you might need to try wine-staging for now, until crossover syncs with it next - which shouldn't be long as there's a beta out right now. I haven't tried the beta yet, though I can give it a go and see.
@EskildH Thank you so much for jumping in with a reply! I just installed XQuartz-2.7.11 and WineHQ-Staging 2.15 which absolutely did the trick! Thank you very very much for restoring my game play and my sanity! I had just renewed Crossover licence for a year and it broke 3 days later. No indication of support of the past 2 months into my paid year of support. Guess I won't bother renewing again and at least now I have an option to get the game up and running with a newer version of Wine. Very much appreciated!
Glad you got it running :). EverQuest II isn't actually a supported application in CrossOver, which is probably why they haven't looked at this issue themselves. I can confirm that it is working in 17.0 beta as well though, so next release should be back in business. As an aside, all the work CodeWeavers do on Crossover goes directly back into WineHQ, so by being subscribed to CrossOver you're also helping Wine :).
EQ2 is listed as a supported App with preconfigured bottle via the CrossOver wizard. I was about to give up but just recently got to test EQ2 on CrossOver 17beta2 and it appears to be working again! This speaks well for the upcoming crossover production release 17. Looking forward to that!
When is crossover 17 going to be released? or is there a way to pay for beta? A guy e-mailed me a few weeks ago from crossover that 17 would be out by now.
I am confused on how to get this working are you all launching from wine-staging and not using crossover I have tried to install eq2 in crossover but it can't install prexp direct xp

Hi Stephen,
I can confirm that EQ2 works on Crossover 17 beta on my 2015 iMac. I understood the production release would be out by end of August, but as soon as Crossover 17 comes out you should be able to reinstall EQ2. If you use the wizard you should install in a new Win7 bottle. In the beta I still got an error on the old HTML engine (not needed in win7 anyway) and one of the two DirectX installs (I believe it was the directx web). However, I closed setup, ran it again from the CX 17 beta wizard (install An Application), and it picked up where it left off and working--now this is in the Crossover 17 Beta so issues like this are to be expected. I'm sure the final release of CX 17 will have a cleaner bottle setup.
For your own sanity (as I was going bonkers too!), I just wanted to let you know that I was relieved to find out EQ2 should work in CX17 as it IS working in the CX17 BETA.
I checked the Codeweavers Crossover download link this morning and it still shows 16 is the current release, so 17 must still be in Beta. I thought CX17 was coming out end of August? I guess not...
Temporary fix: If you're joining to get in game and CX17 isn't out yet, I have tested an install with XQuartz 2.7.11 and WineHQ-Staging 2.15 on my MacBook (CX17beta is on my iMac) to test and this works instead of CX. Once CX17 production comes out you can upgrade your edition and should be good to go.
Hope that leaves you with a bit of peace of mind. As an old school EQ2 player, I know I was beginning to loose faith too. Cheers!
