I like to play in windowed mode since I usually have programs in the background I want quick access too (read that as: things I should be doing instead of playing games). Unfortunately any time you double-click in game the window either maximizes or minimizes, depending on whether it's currently taking up the entire screen or not.

Does anybody know how to disable this? It really makes things difficult. I used to play with a Windows Bootcamp partition but needed to reclaim the HD space, and this isn't an issue with Bootcamp.

a few more system details would be nice (OS, CPU, GPU, Crossover version etc.).

Also, have you tried enabling a virtual desktop for the game? If normal windowed mode is causing issues, this should do the trick.

Open the Crossover menu -> Configure -> Manage Bottles -> Control Panel, then highlight the bottle in question in the left pane, then launch the Wine configuration
tool -> click on the graphics tab. You will see where you can enable the emulate a virtual desktop setting (and optionally define a size for the desktop window), click apply -> OK when finished.

On linux the solution is a virtual desktop that can be set to your desired window size (1280x1024) and then alt tabbing works perfect (for those titles that dont otherwise).

As you are mentioning bootcamp, last I touched OS X, it didn't have those issues so I am somewhat surprised as the problem for the linux folks is X.org/X11, which Apple doesn't touch much less use (anymore).

Try the virtual desktop and see if that remedies your issue.
