EQ2 DirectX 9 Glitch

Guys,

Just download the crosstie using v14 (latest) and I cant get the app to run. The installer works, but when I hit play I get an DirectX error stating that it is out of video memory. Running on a MacAir 13" with 8 GB of memory, 1MB dedicated video memory and and intel core i7. Please advise.

Sup mate,

what kind of GPU is in that Mac Air? Is it an Intel IGPU? If so, which one is it?

You mention 1 MB (Megabyte) of dedicated video memory... but that can't be right. Where did you get that number from?

Did you install the game using the automated process which the Crosstie should take care of, or did you download and install the EQ2 installer manually?

Cheers,
Alex

Hi, i have a macbook air 2013 too (i5 - intel hd5000), like others have already said in the forum, eq2 launches with graphics glitched, almost impossible to recognize anything in the screen, like it is displaying 4x the same thing.

All the people with the 4x glitch are using a mac with intel graphics like me.

The game runs perfectly in bootcamp, but the 4x glitch appears in crossover, wineskin, etc

I think eq2 + mac + intel graphics + any sort of Wine (tried several) = always glitched.

It is really a shame to have to bootcamp to play that game but that way it runs great at least...

Please help us mac + intel hd 5000 owners !

Hola Rodrigo,

I'm not sure how good or bad the Intel GPU drivers for Mac are, but you could try turning off the "performance enhanced graphics" in Crossover and see how that goes.

Open your bottle management and head over to the "advanced tab" for EQ2. At the bottom of the tab you can turn off performance enhanced graphics. Turn it off and reboot the bottle and then try EQ2 again.

Also, are you sure that the Crosstie for EQ2 installed all of the necessary apps (DirectX etc.)? There was a bug with the old Crosstie, but it was updated and should work just fine now.

Cheers,
Alex

Already tried all that, actually i already tried everything possible to make EQ2 run with crossover or wineskin, etc, and intel hd 5000.

Sorry but the bug with the crosstie was related to the file used to install EQ2, it was the wrong one, nothing to do with directX etc...

There are posts on this forum about this problem from one year ago, and crossover did nothing, zero, to try to replicate and fix this bug.

So please, give an ETA to the solution or if the developers don`t want to look for a solution just tell us, and we do not waste time anymore, like i said it runs perfectly in bootcamp and it even runs fairly well in parallels all in the same macbook, it just does not run in any form of wine.

Hi there,

I feel you, even though the HD 5000 will be running at slow speeds in the Macbook Air, it should be enough for EQ2 on balanced details.

Have you tried installing DirectX 9 legacy into the EQ2 bottle? Are you playing in fullscreen or in windowed mode?

In any case, I suggest you get in touch with Caron Wills, the creator of the EQ2 Crosstie. She is a friendly Codeweavers ninja and I am sure someone at Codeweavers will at least look at your case if you ask nicely. If that doesn't work, try contacting one of the other advocates for the title. Be prepared to deliver some log-files. But keep in mind that it will be difficult to demand an ETA for an unsupported title. Everquest 2, unlike WoW and Rift, is not an officially supported title by Codeweavers. In fact, EQ2 is a community supported game. Also, if you are getting the same experience using vanilla Wine (latest dev build) on your Mac, then it's either really a Wine bug with the 5k Intel series or a driver issue - or both for that matter. The reason it runs just fine in Windows is most likely because the Windows Intel drivers are better optimized for gaming (even though IGPU still lag behind dedicated cards from Nvidia and AMD).

Also, I see you ranked the game as "known not to work". It would be nice if you could write one or two sentences on why you ranked it that way so other users know why it didn't work out for you.

Cheers,
Alex

I am having an identical problem. I am using a new iMac with a 2 gb video card. I installed the latest crossover (14.x) and used the current crosstie. It installs driectx as part of the cross tie and then tries to again as part of eq2 (i cancel since it fails if you let the internal one run) it installs successfully (full client) and then give the directx error when I try to run it.

just an update... it is critical that you let the crosstie install the active x and then when the eq2 installer tries to reinstall you hit cancel. This fixed all the problems.

Fyi, I've isolated the bug and will report the issue to Apple. The problem is that the driver calculates point sprite texture coordinates when point sprites are enabled and solid triangles are drawn. The GL spec says the point sprite state should be ignored when lines or triangles are drawn.

Thank you very much!

EQ2 is the only game that i play atm that i need to play in windows...

I really hope we can see EQ2 running in crossover mac soon !

HI,

Just checking to see if there has been a patch released for this?

Thanks.

Cormac

Hi

Just checking in, running crossover Version 14.1.3 (14.1.3.28567), installing EQ2 with the latest crosstie, and still getting the 4X screen bug.

MacBook pro 13. - Video : Intel Iris 1536 MB

Is there a workaround available yet, as the TLP servers unlock tomorrow :)

A.

We never shipped a workaround for the issue because I'm afraid it might have a negative impact on games / drivers that behave properly. I've reported the issue to Apple in March, but no fix so far. They asked me once to retest on Yosemite, which I did...

If there is a workaround I would like to test it... EQ2 is the only reason i'm still booting in windows...

Any update?
