😊
I'm running:
Debian 6.0 i686 32-bit
Core 2 Duo 2.3Ghz, 4Gb RAM
Galaxy GTX550 Ti 1024MB
I used to only play this with a compiled copy of Wine 1.4rc3? And I had to launch the game inside a firefox window, as per the Wine AppDB for EQ2 Streaming Client. Geuss what? With the server maintenance today (3/14/12), that no longer worked for me.
Thankfully, EQ2 works great in Crossover 11!
I downloaded the new Crossover 11 .deb from my account downloads (highly recommend the purchase!).
(I have to assume you can use a terminal.)
1) Run 'cxinstaller'.
2) Install Everquest II (not Extended, but it will install Extended anyways).
3) The first run through, the MSXML install froze on me (YMMV). If that happens to you, run 'cxsetup'. Choose Everquest II and 'Close Bottle'. Go back to cxinstaller and install Everquest II again.
4) Like the install directions say, at some point (hopefully) you'll have a big gray unresponsive window. Run 'cxsetup', choose Everquest II and 'Close Bottle'.
5) DO NOT RUN EVERQUEST II FROM THE MENU. It's just going to confuse you as it starts Everquest II Extended, which is obsolete now? This froze on me.
6) Download the streaming client install from Sony. (EQ2_Streaming_setup.exe) Hit the big "Play Free!" button on the main page.
7) Run 'cxsetup'. Be sure you're working with Everquest II in the left pane and choose 'Run Command'. Choose 'Browse' and find the 'EQ2_Streaming_setup.exe' you downloaded previously. That should start the streaming client installation.
8) After the client is installed, go back to 'cxsetup'. Choose 'Run Command'. Find the file:
/home/you/.cxoffice/Everquest II/drive_c/Program Files/Sony Online Entertainment/Installed Games/EverQuest II/LaunchPad.exe
9) SWEET! A WORKING LAUNCHPAD!
10) Before you close the 'Run Command' dialog, choose 'Create Launcher', and select Desktop or wherever.
Seeing LaunchPad.exe run brought a smile to my face. Way to go codeweavers!
Make a note to 'rm -r' that 'Everquest II Extended' directory that's in 'Installed Games'.
FYI, don't adjust the screen resolution in-game; it still crashes. You have to "peek" at what resolution@Herz you want in-game; don't select it yet, just make a note.
Let's define 'your EQ2 directory' as the directory above... ~/.cxoffice/Everquest II/drive_c/Program Files...Everquest II/
1) Open 'eq2_recent.ini' in your EQ2 directory. There should be a pair of lines in there:
(I use vi, so I see the carriage returns; not sure if that matters)
cl_screenwidth 1600^M
cl_screenheight 900^M
cl_screenrefresh 60^M
2) Create a 'eq2.ini'. Copy those lines in there. Save.
I adjusted my wine virtual desktop as well to get full-screen. Run 'cxsetup', choose the 'Control Panel' tab, and select 'Wine Configuration'. Select the 'Graphics' tab and adjust the virtual desktop width and height to match what you have in your 'eq2.ini'. Don't mess with the check boxes (unless you're self-taught, then have at it).
I used to have a line in eq2.ini that turned off font smoothing to get the game to run in wine 1.4rc3. I have anti-aliased fonts now! JOY!
That's all I've learned in the past month or so. I hope this saves everyone some trouble. If I missed anything, let me know.
