New patcher status [CX11: Works, CXGames: Broken, Wine: Works]

The information below is for older versions of Crossover. The current release (11) works, provided corefonts are installed.

From my initial tests of the new patcher ("LaunchPad 4"), it does not work in CXGames, it will try to start and then crash. It DOES however work in wine (tested 1.3.33) just fine. So you can easily use wine for patching, and use CXGames for playing if you want to. EverQuest2.exe skips the patcher and launches the game directly, while LaunchPad.exe will launch the new patcher - if you have a fully patched game, you can just run EverQuest2.exe in CXGames.

Update: Jonathan notes that LaunchPad 4 requires corefonts to be installed to work in wine. They can be installed via winetricks.

The streaming client/patcher has also stopped working for me, presumably because it tries to automatically update to the new patcher.

The really, really old patcher from the retail disks still works for me, but SoE claims all patchers will be automatically updated when the new expansion is released in three days.

LP4 only works in wine if you have corefonts installed (via winetricks for me), but I'm unsure how you'd do this for this.

Jonathan: Thanks, I've added a note on that

Jonas: Aye, I suspect they'll stop working once AoD/F2P goes live as well. Wine appears to be a good enough workaround until the next cxgames release though :)

Every time I try to patch under Crossover 10.2.0, it downgrades itself to an obsolete patcher and makes the system unusable. It's easy to fix by installing the newest patcher/downloader under Windows, though.

I'll try with the corefonts installed tonight.
