The process doesn't really finish. The installer creates LaunchPad, which starts immediately to download the starting regions. Close the LaunchPad or quit the bottle to finish the install process properly.
This is the same problem that I have, and did what you suggested.... but when I restart it, I get the error message ""Sorry, there was an error initialing launchpad. Please make sure you are connected to the internet and try again." ...I am connected to the internet and it still doesn't work... I even turned off my firewall to see if it was the cause of it... didn't work there either.
I was looking at what the crosstie file installs into the bottle.
It says the applications it installs are:
Croosover HTML engine
DirectX 9
EVE Online
Everquest II
Everquest II extended
Flash 10 ActiveX control
Hotfix for Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7
Microsoft HTML Rendering Engine 7
Microsoft National Language Support Downlev...
Microsoft XML Parser
Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0
msls31
Set virtual desktop
What I am wondering, Why is Eve Online installed into that bottle??? And why is it also installing Everquest 2???
I have tried turning off my firewall completely, which didn't work... something is causing that error message....""Sorry, there was an error initialing launchpad. Please make sure you are connected to the internet and try again."
How come, those who get this game to work on a Mac, and give it the rating it does, can't answer why some of us can't get the game to work on our Macs? It seems like its not a issue. Again, something gets a rating that only works on a few ppl's machines....
I have asked several times about these problems...but to no avail!...

Mainly due to the fact that not all Macs are the same ; what runs on one Mac
might not on another, that simple. As you haven't provided any details in this
regard, all of us (even me who doesn't actually have this game ;) have no idea
if what works on my Mac is going to work on yours.

OK... first and foremost, I do realize how frustrating this can be.
You already know how the medals work and what they mean, so I won't bore you with repeating it. From what I can see, there are a grand total of THREE people casting votes/ratings on this. This is not a reliable sample size, so the current gold rating (which rather shocks me, to be honest) should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt. (and if I'm reading that screen properly, it looks like you have not submitted a Ranking yet.)
The problems you are having are most likely directly related to the fact that the chips in your Mac are different than mine. You have a quad-core xeon Mac pro with a dedicated video card while I have a Core 2 duo with integrated video.
All that being said... redirect this a little bit:
You mentioned that the game is not able to contact the servers (basically). Can other online games connect to their servers? Is your mac connected via Ethernet, AirPort, Bluetooth tethering, IP over Firewire, Tin can with string?
"You mentioned that the game is not able to contact the servers (basically). Can other online games connect to their servers? Is your mac connected via Ethernet, AirPort, Bluetooth tethering, IP over Firewire, Tin can with string?"
Ok... I use a ethernet hardwire connection, using a router that has a hardware firewall built into the thing, but I have it disabled, instead using a software firewall, which I have allowed the games to be able to connect to the internet. Its on a high speed cable modem, and have tested the connection each and everytime with this game and others.
I play several online games running on the Mac ...including World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings, SWG, Champions Online, Star Trek Online, Jade Dynasty, Fallen Earth..... many others.. WoW and Fallen Earth are both Mac client games soooo.... I haven't had any problems with them at all... SWG is the only other game that Sony owns. SWG works great, not a problem with it.
I admit I am not a Mac expect, and am mostly a PC user. I have installed and played this game successfully on my PC Laptop, via the same connection router.
I have tried to install the game using both the full client and streaming client... to no avail. Each time it gives the same error message.

I asked in a post above.... Why is the crosstie installing or trying to install EVE Online... When I look in the applications in the bottle, it says that EVE Online is there... but... I didn't install it, the crosstie did... How can I look at the crosstie file and see what its installing???
How much information do you need??? For a reasonable answer....

..That would actually be my point -- 'Gurus like me' as you put it, often cannot
(or else will not) speculate on a situation until enough hard data is in evidence.
Now that you have provided same, the first thing I'd be trying to ascertain is if
whether or not this app is running in CXG on a nvidia (or other) equipped Mac, as
there are many known disparities between the 2 driver sets (and sometimes these
thing can impact upon or thus resemble networking issues)...

OK.
Your setup has absolutely nothing in common with mine: Mac mini, Core2duo, integrated video, wireless network, airport router.
You've previously stated that you followed the instructions I put in the Tips & Tricks for the Manual Install (a procedure I've repeated dozens of times, mind you) and are using a new, clean bottle. You also stated that you're not doing anything "cute", like copying previously installed files from the Windows partition or using links to redirect CXG back to the Windows partition.
I cannot explain why EVE or the original EQII are showing up in your installed application list. ...or why they are in mine. Chalk it up as an oddity with the install process. (Trust me, EVE is NOT installed in the bottle!) The only different item in mine is an International Domain Names Mitigation API.
Just for the sake of getting a clean slate... and since the actual time commitment is relatively minimal: Ensure you're using CXG 10.x, delete your EQ2X bottle, and follow the Tips & Tricks for Manual Installation without any variation.
For the record, I did just that: clean install with the Tips & Tricks. A new set of installers is now available: Streaming and Full. I chose the Streaming one.
Went through exactly as expected. Installed flash, got the login window, closed the login window without entering any information, and the install completed without any issue. Relaunched the game and it patched up to the starting areas. ...and now letting it background download the rest of the client. (12+ GB)
If "International Domain Names Mitigation API" is installing on your machine, I don't get that on mine, sooo.... something tells me that there is something going on that doesn't even allow my mac to even get that... cause I never get to the "login launcher" so it never installs the game.
I also have tried both install... full and stream... with the same message as before. A thought occurred to me from reading Sony's site. I says that it needs to have IE installed on the machine (in our case the same bottle), it seems to me that its not installing IE only the engine...which is working on my machine as you have noticed, my configuration is allot different than yours.
Last night, I installed IE7, and it installed and worked correctly...I was able to connect to the internet and surfed just fine. I also noticed from Sony's tech support, that launcher doesn't always work, unless... I am reading it wrong, it suggest downloading each one of the launchers.. which seems rather stupid....
How can I copy the bottle for IE into the CXGs bottles?

I am using CXG 10... I noticed that it installed Microsoft International Domain Names Mitigation API... I tried again to install it as per the manual method... it again stops with the same error message that I have been getting. I noticed that just before the window with the name Everquest 2 Extended... I noticed a small window flash for a few secs just before that window... it maybe a firewall then or something else, I don't know.... My question now is, what does this button really do "Use Native Browser by Default"... does it use my Safari browser or IE 7 that is installed in the bottle?
Ok... I think I narrowed down the problem with the game not installing and the error message... I installed IE7 in Crossover Professional, and posted this url "http://launch.soe.com/lp3/index.html?skin=eq2x&game=eq2x" they provide on the SOE site for problems initializing the launch pad... Lo and Behold... The same error message that I have be getting.... "Sorry, there was a error initializing LaunchPad. Please make sure you are connected to the internet and try again." On top in the browser part... there is "!Your Security settings do not allow websites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer. This page may not display correctly Click here for options..." This is in IE7... so... I am not sure how to change it beyond what I changed in the bottle to allow it in the game... or on a mac for that matter.
Try installing ...
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=7856
or
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=7855
..this of course doesn't explain why Harry reports it as working ;
the tie installs mshtml7 (or should) but it doesn't install flashx
(prolly because only IE7 needs it) ... I have since checked the tie
here, and it does indeed work 'as expected' afaict ; I guess one would
need suspect your CXG install is broken somehow (but to be fair, I've
not checked it one the Mac here)
Jerry Kouzes wrote:

Exactly. Pressing that button will cause any web browser window request to be opened in the native operating system, rather than the CXG bottle. In testing, I discovered that all browser windows end up with corrupted URLs unless it was passed outside the bottle.

The FlashX is installed via the Eq2-Z setup file it seems... its like it wants IE to be installed on your PC as the default. But, in reading the SOE site, for this issue, some people are having problems with it not working... some users us Firefox as their browser, and it fails to install with that. Interesting enough, its the Linux users that are having the problem, so the problem maybe within wine itself. I don't know cause I haven't figured out how to even us wine (other than the drinking type)... On my laptop PC, I have IE and Firefox installed, and the game doesn't seem to care.
I tried to install this by installing IE7 from microsoft's site, then installing the components....lastly installing EQ2-X as mention in the manual version... Well, I got the SOE screen, and it just sat there, the progress bar didn't move so, I couldn't tell if it was downloading or whether it stalled... This time I didn't get any messages. Nada ...zip....
Artist Formally Known as Dot wrote:

The TIE (and the Manual Install) do not add Flash by name because the EQ2X setup files install flash by itself.
Whether it is preferable to add Flash 9 or Flash 10 by hand, or allow EQ2X_setup to install Flash 10.1 is debatable. All I know: one less package for the user to click on!

OK... this is how I am seeing things: LaunchPad.exe makes specific calls to MSIE .dll's by name. It does not actually use the whole browser, just one or two libraries it contains. CXG is not designed/tailored to house the whole IE 6/7 package, so some people came up with the "Rendering Engines" to specifically address this type of need.
It's late.. rough day at work.. patience wearing thin. :) The T&T entry I put here (and in LOTRO, BTW) is very specific and each step has a reason.
I did not say "create a new XP bottle... then install IE7 Rendering into it" but "install IE7 Rendering into a new XP bottle" as the extra step of creating a bottle is not necessary and also prevents someone from trying to reuse an existing bottle.
I said to enable a virtual desktop because the launchpad has drawing/rendering issues in "seamless mode"
I said to set the desktop size to 1024x768 because the Launchpad is too big to fit in the 800x600 default
I said to click the "native web browser" button because web pages, such as adding Station Cash and account management, will end up with a blank, corrupted web page when opened within the CXG bottle.
I am trying to help... but you need to convince me that you're following the instructions without variation. Do not skip a step. Do not reinterpret. Do not add. Just do what's there. Following the "Manual Install" instructions should not be the last part of the process: it is the first.

Harry...
Methinks your are missing some points.... I did each and every step as you said in the manual install.... the launcher does NOT!! repeat NOT! install the game... it continuously gives the same error message that I have posted. Secondly, if the crosstie doesn't work either then doesn't that give some clue that it doesn't work.
Further more, I went to WineHq last night to see if they had any solutions... Guess what!! They claimed it doesn't work. So unless you are running it on a system that is twitched some way, I can't get this game to work at all on my Mac Pro and I am not going to waste my time trying to prove that I followed your steps when I can't. This really isn't to much that I can screw up... so proving to you that I followed you steps is rather insulting. If the manual method is the first part of the process, then what is the completion of this. I didn't start this thread, i just commented that it didn't work for me.

You said you installed a full copy of IE7 into the CXG bottle.
At any rate, I can offer no explanation as to why your setup does not work, but mine is relatively flawless.
Feel free to submit a rank of "Known not to work". (Hopefully that will knock down the Gold rating which this game does not deserve)

I said I tried that along with other methods, trying to find a way to get this game to work. I tried your method, to no success, I tried to installing the full copy of IE7, and enabled in it all the active x controls in it. I tried turning off my firewall on my Mac Pro, and the software. I looked at the log that CXGs makes... and saw that the launchpad.dll file errors out...
Heck, I am not even sure if I can turn off the firewall... anyways... somehow, launchpad isn't as the error message says... initialing launchpad. My guess is that its the firewall... in which case... I am using a program called Virusbarrier X6 that is very odd to work... the system one is easy to turn off... but... like some firewalls you can allow a specific file like launchpad.exe to bypass the firewall... VirusBarrier doesn't allow you to select that file or files that allow the game to install.
I just found this one SOE forum....
"If you are experiencing, "Sorry, there was an error initializing LaunchPad. Please make sure you are connected to the internet and try again." please be aware that this is a known outtage that we are experiencing at the moment and our engineers are working diligently to get everything back up and running for everyone. This is not a technical issue on your end. I appreciate your patience!

Well... I am HAPPY to report that Everquest 2 Extended finally installed and plays great now. Seems that SOE has fixed whatever the problem was.... HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY!!...
Looks great and runs great... only problem is the games "in game" store will not allow you to purchase new SC coins ... it says that its not running on a Windows XP machine... DOH!!!...
