Although the installer/launcher/patcher can be a bit twitchy, EQ2X appears to work very reliably under CXG 10.0

Quick tip: Enable the Virtual Desktop for the bottle (1024x768) and exit the login window immediately after the install finishes (to allow CXG to clean up)

See y'all in Norrath!

Do you have any other tips on getting the installer to run? Once the package runs the Acrobat Reader Install I see a SOE splash screen then a gray rectangle.

Any direction is appreciated.

I left my post brief, thinking the TIE file would cover it all. It didn't... they're trying to fix it ;)

Very quickly, here's the steps... (I'll put together a better entry for Tips & Tricks)

Use the Software Installer install "MIcrosoft HTML Rendering Engine 7" into an XP Bottle. (Rename the bottle to "EverQuest II Exended" just for clarity)

Use the Wine Configuration tool under Manage Bottles to enable a Virtual Desktop of 1024x768

THEN go back to the Software Installer and install "Other Application" and choose the EQ2X_setup.exe file.

You will see a grey box appear. Let that sit for a while. It should change to a login screen. Close the login screen (which will allow the install to finish).

Now that the TIE file has been fixed (as much as it can be) the install worked with only a minor bump, and I've seen no significant issue otherwise.

On my Mac, I still can't get it to install, I have tried the crosstie, tried to install it manually... each time, it claims that I am not connected to the internet. Which is rather odd. So.... any ideas? Or does this not work on the Mac???

That is odd. Works as I stated on my Mac mini (mid-2010) and my older iMac (2.4 GHz aluminum)

I know someone is at codeweavers maintaing the TIE file as is possible. The Tips & Tricks I wrote worked flawlessly on both machines.

Setting aside the TIE file... Doing the manual install as in the T&T... when you did the Other Application -> EQ2X_Setup... did the Flash installer kick in? or is the flash installer the one complaining about the internet connectivity? Are you using a new bottle?

The flash installed just fine... its at the game thats not installing...I used the crosstie on here to create the bottle..I pre-downloaded the file from their site first, then used the tie... each step worked until it got to installing the game.

I also just tried to use the manual steps to installing the game, it installs up to where it installs the adobe software, then as with the xtie method, the same message "Sorry, there was an error initialing launchpad. Please make sure you are connected to thee internet and try again."

Well, I have tried this several times now, but nothing I do, can't seem to get it past the error message... so, unless anyone can suggest something else... it looks like another game for windows only...
😠 😠 😠

Don't know what to say. We're both using Macs. We're both using CrossOver Games 10. We're both using the same downloaded EQ2X installer. We're both using the exact same process I outlined in Tips & Tricks.

I personally have installed EQ2X dozens of times without any problem whatsoever

It's not as if you're using an old version of crossover, copying files from a windows partition or re-using an old bottle.

This is my machine is:

Ok, as a test... I installed this game on my PC Laptop. It installed via the same steps outline in the thread. But, on my Mac Pro.. it still stalls at the launcher, not finishing installation with the same error message.

Personally, I wouldn't say that this one is gold... maybe bronze, since it seems that only one person has confirmed that this installed and worked on their mac.

Only possible thing I can think of... maybe the networking chipset in your mac is not quite 100% with WINE/CXG

Can you access the internet in any other apps? Both Hello Kitty Online and Shin Megami Tensei are free MMOs... you should be able to at least download and install the clients without opening accounts.

What about using IE in CXO? Does that also have issues?

I also got the grey screen that wouldn't go away at first. However, after installing via CrossTie (which I should have discovered earlier!!), everything worked fine.

Here's the TIE file: http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=8178

Note that you need to follow the instructions at the end to Quit the bottle so the login screen works properly.

I ran into some issues using the tie.... here is how I got it working...

Followed the instructions from the tie and installed making sure to shutdown the bottle so settings get in place.

Ran the launcher and it pulled eq2 down. Here is where my problems began... when the launcher switched to play... I would click and then CrossOverGames when just end... never launching the actual game. So to get the game to execute I had to turn off "emulate a virtual desktop" and run the Everquest2.exe from the bottle directly... all is good then. Still dorking with settings... I will post if I get a better solution, but this hack works for now.

Also... FYI:

MacBook Pro OS X Lion 8 Gig 2 gig Core i7 with AMD Radeon HD6490M... So far running smoothly.
