That's old news 😊 Originally it was announced for August, now they have just reanounced it for "later this year"
Word is that their beta, due to start a couple of weeks back, still hasn't started. So I wouldn't hold your breath.
The official Linux and Mac clients, based on Cedega and Cider respectively, will finally be released on tuesday. In fact, it is possible to already download them and try their performance on a test server:

Nevertheless, having used Cedega for quite some time before switching to Crossover Linux, and by what I have seen of the new clients, I still think that the game works better under Crossover. I hope it will still be supported in the future by Codeweavers, even more now that the release date for Revelations 3, which will deliver the new Trinity engine, has been set for November 28th :)
Since Shader Model 3 is required to enjoy the new content, I guess we will have to play with the Trinity Classic version of the client for the time coming, right? Or will SM3 be supported soon under Crossover Linux?
It seems that perhaps EVE wont be playable with Crossover Linux after the Trinity patch is deployed, according to a dev blog entry posted today:
Q. Will EVE: Trinity break on Linux using Wine?
A. Maybe. We have implemented a number of new functions and code that is needed by both the EVE: Trinity Classic and the EVE: Trintity Premium client. Most notable is Asynchronous IO and IO Completion. This is not currently supported by Wine, so EVE: Trinity will not run on Wine at the initial release. Transgaming is adding this functionality as we speak and will have the functionality in place from launch of EVE: Trinity.
Does this mean we will have to start using Cedega, or the official client from then on?

A number of other applications need these features, and since transgaming has a long standing history of not contributing back to Wine we are working on this ourselves. So Eve Online might break in 6.2, but it should continue to work in 7.0.
