The link below is dead after the end of the beta testing. This should be all you need to get EVE running on CrossOver Mac 6.0. On Linux the game should "just run":

1) Install EVE normally in a seperate(!) win2k or xp bottle.

2) Launch winecfg in that bottle: Configure->Manage bottles. Select the eve bottle, go to "Control Panel", select winecfg and press Launch selected item.

3)Go to the graphics tab, and tick "Emulate a virtual desktop". Set the size to 640x480

4) Press OK and close all dialogs. EVE should run now.

If you have problems connecting the machonet folders might be missing. As a workaround you can copy the cache/MachoNet/ folder from a working installation. Rumors say that this is a bug in eve itself, I don't know for sure. Maybe it is fixed with the recent updates.

What does NOT work yet:

 • Sound
 • Real fullscreen. You have to play in the virtual desktop because of issues with the windowed login dialog that occur otherwise

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I got eve-online to work in a win2k bottle on my MacBook Pro using those tips. There was a couple of problems which people reported earlier on this forum but that is good to repeat.

State: After following the guide the splash screen should display and then a dialog saying that D3DX wasn't found, or at least not a version which it cares about. Clicking no quits eve and clicking yes renders a green/white screen and my fans to go nuts.
Do this: Install d3dx9_30.dll into windows/system32. (my windows folder is located in ~/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/win2000/drive_c so look there around. Can also be found in Manage bottles)

State: No more warning. Yay. No login screen either though, just a black background.
Do this: Install the arial font in windows/fonts. Adalberto Castelo kindly gave us this link http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~gordeon/arial.zip

Other info: I did run the MachoNet script Adalberto Castelo (again!) posted the link to: http://elfe.mine.nu/eve/linux/MachoNet.bash and I restarted a random number of times.

Other issues: Sound is still missing. That characters portrait is off doesn't bother me.

How to find that file? Stefan explains in another post...

"...You need a d3dx9_30.dll from somewhere, like from a existing windows Installation. EVE is supposed to ship this DLL, and does, but it is packed inside a .NET application so it doesn't extract. Find a d3dx9_30.dll and put into ~/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/<bottle name>/drive_c/windows/system32 . Then it should work. That folder is in your home directory, not the unix root."

For me, that destination directory has this path:

/Users/girifox/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/eve/drive_c/windows/system32/

Wait for CrossOver 6.1. Should be out in the next week (no promises).

CrossOver 6.1 will install a full DirectX setup that includes all the files needed to run EVE Online.

Wow, that's good news.

I was about to post this problem with where I'm up to (below), but it's not relevant with that news.

I have followed the instructions and got it installed OK.
Eve loads up to login screen.

However, after clicking connect, I get this error message about Connection Refused - thanks for the enthusiasm, please use just a single trial account at a time.

I tested on a nearby Windows machine that I can still logon. I can on Windows. Logged out. No problems.

Have just had the same problem the Giri Fox listed. Eve worked fine last night and for an hour or two today, and then i got the same connection refused problem.

any idea's?

Cheers

:)
