I am trying to run CXGAMES 7.1 for the EVE Online Premium content. Unstall was ok (threw a DirectX issue that running DxSetup by hand resolved),
At load, I get 1 of three behaviors:
- Game loads correctly (~10% of the time and hasn't happened in a couple of days)
- Game loads, but black bars at top and bottom of screen revealing locations for AWN panels. At this time, the game is responsive, but the mouse pointer appears ~3/4" below where the pointer operates in the screen. Changing the resolution of the game and the mode from to Windowed and then back to Full screen resolves this.
- Video is scrambled white, and it's time to reset (~10% of the time)
After it loads and I select character and enter game, all appears fine. I left it running today docked in station for over an hour with no issues. Another test today and the game froze (docked in station) after a few seconds. This has been sporadic, except I can now reproduce it quickly with...jumping star systems.
After a cleanly running game (graphics look great and it's pretty smooth), if I just jump a few solar systems (usually 2-4), the EVE client slows WAAAY down and finally is totally non-responsive.
TOP reports that ExeFile is usually running 100% (up to 150%). Usually, I just "kill -15 $PID' and try again. Sometimes, it crashes completely. Regardless, it appears to be most unstable when approaching a gate where there's traffic, objects, lots of sudden rendering. Not sure which issue is causing it, but it's EASY to reproduce.
I though it might be the AWN, so I created a new user, did a clean install and tried it without AWN. Same results.
My system:
Ubuntu 8.04 (fully patched) 64-bit
Gnome 2.22.3
Intel Q6600 Processor (2.4GHz quad core)
6GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS (rev a1)
nVidia proprietary video driver
Avant Window Navigator
1600x1200 display usually (capable of 1900x1200)
Help.
Thanks,
Karl
