EA 1.1.2 not working with Crossover Games

I have an early 2008 model Mac Pro and have been using Crossover games successfully with Eve.

Until the new EA 1.1.2 patch. Now Eve will start and run for a few seconds, sometimes a couple of minutes before it just locks solid. No mouse clicks or keyboard inputs work.

I've downloaded a fresh copy of the Eve (Classic) install routine and deleted the bottle, created a new one but it's still the same. As far as I'm concerned, Eve no longer works with Crossover games.

Has anyone else had this problem since the patch yesterday?

Thanks

Keith.

Are you running EVE in a window? If so, can you switch to any other Mac application (e.g. the Finder) either by clicking or Command-tab?

If you're running it full-screen, does CrossOver respond to the keyboard shortcut for Restore Display (Command-Option-R)?

If none of the above works, try Command-Option-Esc followed by Return. This is the sequence to Force Quit CrossOver.

If still nothing works, then it sounds like the Window Server of Mac OS X has locked up. This would be a bug in Mac OS X or the graphics driver. Did you recently update Mac OS X at around the same time as this issue showed up? It's also possible that the new EVE patch changes the behavior of EVE and CrossOver in such a way as to trigger the bug when it didn't used to.

What version of Mac OS X are you using, and what GPU does your Mac Pro have?

Hi Ken, thanks for the quick reply.

I'm running the Eve client in a window and the rest of the Mac is working perfectly, Finder hasn't crashed, all other applications are still running. The only way I can shut the Eve client down is by doing a CMD-Q which kills Crossover games completely.

I've not changed anything within OS X since the last update (10.5.5) a few weeks ago and Eve was working yesterday morning but not after I'd patched it yesterday evening.

I said it was the Eve 1.1.2 patch, I meant 1.1.1 - 1.1.2 is released tomorrow.

My Mac Pro has the Nvidia 8800 graphics card.

Yes, I had the same problem with the latest patch. I'm dual logging with 2 windows, with each client running in its own bottle. The client will lock up if I lose focus when switching windows or application.

There's a workaround from the wine/linux forums which works for me;

Go to Configure > Manage Bottles > Select a bottle > Control Panel > winecfg > Graphics tab > check 'Emmulate a virtual desktop' then specify a desktop size.

In eve client, I set a resolution to match the virtual desktop size and chose full-screen.

Hope that helps.

That workaround has done the trick, thanks.

this bug has been resolved in latest wine releases

Sorry to disappoint, but the 'loss focus' bug is still VERY MUCH there in the latest wine release. (1.1.9). Occasionally it will work, but its been confirmed that the focus issue is still a bug.
