So after trying out the new crossover games i bought both the mac and linux versions. In either premium or class mode eve locks up on exit. In OX 10.5.2 i have to tell crossover to reboot or force quit it to get the game to shut down. Same thing on the linux version, running ubuntu 8.04. It will show the "are you sure" screen and stop responding when confirm the exit. Im not even sure where to get good diagnostic data about why it freezes up.
I know this problem, sort of at least. WineD3D resets the screen resolution on PROCESS_DETACH since Eve forgets to destroy its objects or reset the resolution itself. Eve then receives a screen res change message, is confused and bails out.
For me this doesn't lead to a freeze though - just the debugger starts up, dumps a backtrace to /dev/null and the game goes away, so it is just a short delay(a few secounds) at exit. I haven't seen it freeze entirely yet, but I am pretty sure this crash causes the problem.
A possible workaround is to run Eve at the same resolution as your desktop. A proper fix needs some changes in CrossOver, but I am not yet sure how this problem has to be fixed exactly.
wasn't this fixed in the released unsupported release?
Well changing the resolution to match my desktop resolution helped a little bit on the mac version (have not tried on linux) it only locks up about 1/2 the time when i exit and restarting the bottle clears it up. I have not tried the beta release, how stable are they?
Once i've changed, didn't turn back to stable. Everything runs smooth.
