Crossover Games and Eve Online

Well, I have crossover and eve installed alright, but the game is basically unplayable. There's major lag everywhere, and the graphics are all weird. I know I don't have a good graphics card, but eve still ran fine when I had windows installed. any ideas?

Can you give more information about your system?

Running Ubuntu 7.10

2.8 GHz
768 RAM
Graphics card: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 865G 20061017 x86/MMX/SSE2
Video RAM: 1024

Your driver build is more than one year old, please see if there's an update available. But still the Intel graphics chip driver on Linux is rather bad and gives only a fraction of the Windows driver's performance and often has stability and correctness issues.

ah. guess it's time to upgrade then =P

ok well I fixed the lag issue...now it freezes on character selection =P

ok, something I noticed after reinstalling it for the nth time...is I put audio=0 in prefs.ini and everything, but upon starting eve I could still hear music, and the audio box was still checked. I believe the problem is that eve voice is acting in the same way, but I can't hit esc and turn it off because eve freezes as soon as I enter character selection. any ideas around this?

oh and are there any specific audio settings I should set in the crossover bottle I could try?

ok....now I seem to be able to get past char selection and it freezes while entering station.

so close....

argh...back to freezing on char selection. It always stops right when the big black exclamation mark shows up where my portrait is. That have anything to do with it?

hm...I guess crossover just doesn't like my comp :(

sometimes it freezes on char selection, and somethings it freezes on entering station. idk if this helps, but when the char selection does load, trying to hit esc also freezes it.

no ideas?

No idea, sorry. Might be another bug in the Intel driver :-/

I guess so. Eve forum people sayin' the same thing. Oh well :(
