Screenshots: how to take them?

Okay, so this may seem obvious to some of you, but I'm stumped. In Windows, I would press F14 to take a screenshot in EVE, but in OS X, F14 is assigned to lower the monitor's brightness and takes no snapshots. I tried F13, but that does nothing.

I can't remap the key in-game - it says "you can not change this shortcut." It says that it's bound to the "Print Screen" key.

Any ideas on what can be done to make it work? I'm hoping to get F13 assigned to take the shot, since it currently does nothing. Is there a way to change how Crossover handles what keys do what?

Thank you in advance.

P.S.
I know I could use Command+Shift+3, but that gets the bar on top and whatever else happens to be in the way, so I'm hoping that I can do it as the game normally would.

You have your function keys mapped to "hardware" features (like screen brightness). You can change that in System Preferences. You should also be able to override it using the "fn" key, so that the key event will be sent to the application.

Well, I looked through System Preferences (specifically, Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts), but I couldn't find anything referencing the F14 or F15 keys, even after checking again.

Also, I don't have an "fn" key on my keyboard. I'm not sure what you mean. 😕

Oh, sorry. I mistakenly thought you were on a laptop, where my comments would make a bit more sense. (They'd still be incorrect because the laptops don't have function keys higher than F12.)

It turns out that Apple has commandeered F14 and F15 for screen brightness on iMacs. There may be complicated ways to wrest those keys back from the OS, but I don't know what they are. Even on other Macs (not iMacs), those keys are not sent to applications by the OS. So, CrossOver never sees anything when those keys are pressed.

Argh! It looks like I'll have to rely on Command+Shift+3 for now, then (or I could try Command+Shift+4 followed by the spacebar). Perhaps I'll ask on the EVE forums and see if there's any way to make it so that I can actually change what key the snapshot function is bound to. But this will do for now. Thank you for your help!

Somebody posted the following on MacInTouch www.macintouch.com :

Liberation day for F14-F16 has arrived at last!

Apple has finally rectified the 3-year old problem of the unusable
F16 key. Today's release of Keyboard Software Update 1.1 is
described as being needed for the new aluminium keyboards, but in
fact anyone with 10.4.10 can install it and at it will support the
F16 key on previous generation white Apple keyboards. Not only this,
but you can also reclaim the F14 and F15 keys which were previously
permanently assigned to decrease/increase display brightness,
regardless of whether your display even supported it. No more - you
can map these keys to whatever you like using the Keyboard pane in
System Preferences.

I haven't tested this, myself. Just passing the info along.
