Playability of EVE?

Hi, I'm looking to purchase a Mac Pro in the near future, provided I can continue to play EVE with it, otherwise, I don't have much of a reason to switch from my current linux and windows dual boot setup. Basically I really want to be able to run EVE from OSX (i.e. avoid bootcamp). Does anyone have any experience with this? I've used Cedega before, and right now I'm a little disappointed... plus cider seems like it's far from completion. How does crossover office compare? Do I have any hope? I'd rather not buy a new Mac and pay for Crossover Office only to be sorely disappointed.

i've tried running eve with crossover and although it seems to install fine, when you try to run the game, it displays the loading splash screen, then does nothing else.
that's using a macbook pro, btw.
right now i'd say the only way to run eve on a mac is to actually use windows, through bootcamp.

Yeah, I've had pretty much the same experience with my iMac, so for the time being I run my games under BootCamp. It works wonderfully, but it WOULD be oh so nice if it would run it under OS X.

I have it working in very low resolution (on a MacBookPro) as per the comments above about using a virtual desktop. If I up the resolution to emulate at 1024x768 v. desktop I get graphical corruption on the login screen.

So.. currently I'm disappointed. Still.. I needed to re-install my machine after screwing up with monolingual. Looks like I'm going back to bootcamp though :(

Im having the same problem, the splash screen just stays there, ive put the MachoNet.bash thing into the eve folder but i have no idea how to use it...

Please help :)

Thanks

Ok, got it working, still no audio, problems with pictures and the size of the window but at least it works and i can use it if im not near my other pc.

Just waiting for it to be fully fixed :)
Good work

I'm able to get it to work on a MacBook Pro and I've tested it on a Mac Pro before and both work fine. The only missing thing is audio support. It works even in high res and I've gotten it to go 1440 x ??? resolution on my MacBook Pro.

Until audio support comes out, EVE Online isn't quite the same thing without the sound, but it is definitely usable and I've even run missions with it, though nothing too ambitious.

I have tested EVE on a MacBook and everything except for the sound works as expected. The performance is ok most of the times. 6.1.0 really brought huge improvements. I will play EVE exclusively in CrossOver now, if I come across any problems, I'll post them here of course.
Really great work Codeweavers ! Thank you so very much !

Welcome. 😊

We will get the audio to work. Just not in short order unfortunately. It will be one of our blocker bugs for 7.0.

I just purchased CrossOver v6.1 solely because the support for Eve improved.
It was already working OK for me on the previous version, but now it's even better.

Great stuff!

I just recently had to switch to using my mac book (NOT PRO) full time after a PC meltdown. Can EVE be played on a regular macbook via this or other dual platform setups? my concern of course being the graphic engine is not capable.

I play Eve on a Macbook almost exclusively through Crossover now, and it's been great. The Macbooks certainly aren't heavy duty gaming machines and I don't get anything near the 200 fps that people post about on the forums, but I've never really felt like my 25 fps were preventing me from doing anything. Sure, the mouse is a little sluggish through crossover and the windowing stuff is a bit weird, but face it...CCP server lag is usually the limiting factor anyway. If I plan to play for more than a couple of hours, I'll usually use bootcamp or something, but I've really had a great experience with Crossover on a Macbook so far.

ok if this is still something you're looking for - I just installed 6.1 and EVE ... with an exception of sound everything looks amazing - performance within crossover is just as good as on my windows machine. i will buy a full version of codeweavers' cross as soon as sound issue is resolved. EVE is the only game I play and for now I have a PC dedicated for it. I'm running on 2.4GHz Intel C2D, 2GB RAM, 256 8600M GT. Come on CodeWeavers... make the sound work please :)

With regards to the sound issue, please see my thread which provides a new version of the CrossOver audio driver to test: http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=1860;forum=1;msg=6681
