EA crashes when trying to open or create a project file.

Hi,

I wanted to use EA for my thesis and after evaluating several UML Modeling Tools I decided to purchase a copy of EA Desktop Edition and CrossOver.

I have just installed a full version of Enterprise Architect Desktop Ed. (ver. 10.0.1006) on a Mac OS X (ver. 10.7.5) using CrossOver (ver. 12.1.1).

I also have the two full licenses activated (and paid for).

EA crashes when trying to open or create a project file.

Below is the content of the Program Error I get:

"The program EA.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

and then

"This can be coused by a problem in the program or a deficiency in Wine. You may want to check the Application Database for tips about running this application."

Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Andrea

Hi Andrea,

I cannot help you here since I am running it under Linux where I do not have these issues. But since you are a CodeWeavers customer I would suggest to enter a support ticket here:
http://www.codeweavers.com/support/tickets/
Before doing so do a ticket search for terms like "Architect", maybe your problem is already known there.

Hope this will help,
cheers,
Lars

Hi Lars,

Thanks for your swift response.
I honestly didn't know where to post it.
I will keep you updated on this issue.

Andrea

Andrea,

I forwarded your issue to the ticket system, which should get you faster help with this.

They will likely want to know what steps you took to get Enterprise Architect 10 installed and they may want a sample project to demonstrate what you are seeing.

Enterprise Architect is something we look at pretty regularly and we are more than willing to help. Unfortunately I'm unfamiliar with the behavior you are reporting and I've looked through the bugs for previous versions (which will sometimes shed light on what's happening with the current version)... but I don't see anything.

Your best bet is to have something prepared to send in and/or to have a log file (not the backtrace that CrossOver provides) of this issue without flags set. Instructions on how to gather a log on the Mac are available here:

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/mac/mactutorial/submittechsupportlog

Your ticket number is 934368 and you should be able to log into our website to pull up the ticket. You can even add additional information to it (a sample document, a log file) before our Support Team gets to it.

This sounds like what happens when EA is installed but missing dependencies. I would start by deleting your existing install of EA 10 and trying again.

In Crossover go to the Configure menu, Manage Bottles, highlight your EA 10 bottle, and click the '-' minus button in the bottom-left to delete the bottle.

Next go to the Crossover menu, Preferences, Installer Assistant tab, and make sure Automatically Download New Profiles is checked. That will make sure the installer scripts (tie files) are up to date.

And then go back to the Configure menu, Install Software, choose the EA 10 entry, and install.

The missing dependency will be msxml4.

Hi

Was this resolved? I am facing the same issue.
Things were fine till I was using the trial version both (Cross over and EA 10). But then when I registered both, and installed EA full version, EA crashes on creating or opening a project. I also installed EA trial version in a separate location so that dependencies get installed. But full version is not working, crashes on creating/opening project.

OS is Mac OS X 10.8.4

Thanks
Vijay
