i managed to make it run with Crossover and wine mono.
The catch is that the installer crashed 30 times!! . But happily each time it resumed the installation from where it stopped!.

For reasons that seem strange to me i managed for second time to run Elite Dangerous under CrossOver 21.1.0 Linux
but i cant run it through steam.

For anyone interested:

1. Downloading standalone frontier site launcher.
2. Installing in a crossover win7 64 bottle
3. After successfull installation , install wine mono.
4. Validate the wine mono is installed:
   a. Right click in the bottle
   b. Properties
   c. check 'Installed applications' pane.
5. We start the ED launcher
6. We logon
7. We downloand Horizon and see the progress bar proceed
8. Elite Dangerous Bottle / Right click / Settings / DXVK Vulkan backend for D3D11
9. Games seems to work ok!
