E-Tax 2010

I've installed E-Tax 2010 in Crossover 9.01 and got it to work right up to Lodgement, when it stops. It seems to be when it does the security check prior to Lodgement that it stops.
I previously installed it in Crossover 8 and it wouldn't work. I then found out that Crossover 9.01 was out so I installed that, and saw something on another thread about needing Internet Explorer so I installed that in the same bottle. Basically it works but flashes a lot so it looks like it isn't that stable. It also won't do the little things like Pre-filling or Rollover.
I imagine there is something missing that it is looking for.
Anyway, I'm not going to worry too much, my refund is only $38 so I won't be burning midnight oil to try to get it to work, but if I think of how to get it going then I will try.

We still have not figured out the problem with pre-filling - but presumably it is the same problem with lodgement.

As I couldn't get it running in a fresh bottle (would hang on start-up), I have installed it in my office 2007 bottle - and it DOES roll-over fine. I also managed to update through e-tax - ran the updating wizard fine. Maybe some problem with accessing their secure server, as opposed to their non-secure (but I know sweet FA about this sort of thing)? According to their website the secure info is accessed via:

For all communication with e-tax to the ATO, access to https via port 443 must be enabled for
https://etaxservices10.etax.ato.gov.au

Hi Natasha,

Thanks for the insight here....obviously it's doing all this over SSL, but
why work in your office2007 and not by itself is a bit of a mystery...ie; it doesn't
say on the ATO site "you need office2007 to use this" 8)

I've an idea though....I'll need wait for the Ninjas to return Monday before I can
ask them about it....but ty for the post!

Cheers!

Hi all,

i am quite interested if you know how to have etax 2010 work for prefilling.
I am using crossover v9.0.1, and i get the error 1030 when trying to do the prefilling.

Natasha, i dont know what is this Office2007 bottle you use, is that a Vista bottle were you installed Office 2007 ?
I tried Win XP,2K and Vista without success for etax :(

Cheers

Hi,

I'm actually trying to find out the detail of this -- I'm suspecting it has
nothing to do with Office2007 perse, but something about that bottle profile
and/or some runtime dependencies that are part of that installation...

Cheers!

I don't think it has anything to do with Office 2007. I just installed it into the same winxp bottle that I had installed office into when it wouldn't work in its own bottle (hey, it worked didn't it?!). This bottle allows me to rollover, but I just tested the rollover function in a different bottle (with no Office) and it worked. So I have no idea what the problem was with the other person who said their rollover didn't work with e-tax in an xp bottle and ie7!

So basically it should work in an xp bottle with ie7. BUT pre-filling (and I assume lodgement) won't work. I haven't found anything online about anyone getting this to work in etax 2008 or 2009 either, so it's not a unique problem - and is also probably a lost cause. I did see some hints that the windows management interface was the problem, but if you've installed ie7 you can't install it (as you apparently have a newer version of xp) and without ie7 the install fails...

So in short, running it with office has no benefit to etax 2010, since I can't get pre-filling to work either.

It's not a total "lost cause",
as long as the main thing works, & you can enter your stuff,
there is always the option to print-out the form & send it via snail-mail.

would be nice, to lodge 'online' but if not, as long as it works a fair bit, under'nix

I never found the 'pre-filling' much use, anyway.

Hi,

I had a chat with one of the Stupendous Ninjas and the thinking was that
Office2007 has aught to do with it (Natasha's observations would allude to
the same conclusion) -- that said, the c4p recipe doesn't quite recreate the
exact bottle makeup Office2007 uses....so...

I've just rattled together another c4p recipe - you can grab it here.

It adds a few extra dependencies along with a check of SSL supports that would
very much be required to do the secure online negotiation. Obviously, at this
time of year you can bet the ATO servers get fairly busy, and so that network
congestion might also be spoiling the broth here...

If anyone wants to grab the reworked c4p from the above link and report back
if it's any better/worse setup like this, go for it. (if it is better I'll
update the c4p on this page)

Cheers!

I have no problems pre-filling on windows. The c4p does not work with pre-filling.

I don't think Office has anything to do with it.

I agree....someone who actually uses the ATO fleecing machine will
have to grab a debuglog of the pre-filling operation and hoist it
to a public repo (such as rapidshare) and post the URL back here so
others can look at what's going on....

Note: I have no idea what such a log would contain - in theory at least
it should be just machine babble ...but....there may be a chance that
some personal/private info is also contained in such a log -- be sure
to exclude any such info from the logfile if someone tries this.
