Doesn't Launch

While this application installs great it will not launch. Perhaps I need to install some core system file into the bottle for the app to run, but have, thus far, not determined which one. You will probably have to run an older version of e-Sword.

Got it to work. I copied the win98 bottle and added C++ 6.0 and the installer 2.0, then installed e-Sword and it starts right up now.

Hi,

Good to hear -- I'll spool up a C4P profile for this app when
I get a spare moment today, which should make it all 1 Click easy...

Cheers!

Hi again,

 I just did a C4P profile for this app (it'll likely go live in the next 'x' hours) -- I didn't particularly like the idea of using a win98 bottle, so I had a look at the install process and concluded to use a win2000 bottle profile instead. The program seems to work fine as far as I can tell -- that said, I don't have any of the addons available, so I'd be interested in hearing how the C4P profile works in a 'real' situation using addons, and/or reports of general functionality from those more familiar with this program than I...

Cheers!

How did you do that? I'm also not able to launch e-Sword

Hi,

The revised C4P profile is back up - please check it out and let me know how it goes.

@Josue -- Thanks for asking, I meant to spell out the changes for those who may not
have the newer Crossover 9 version might want to try the same approach...so here's
the list of alterations made ;

  • Bottle version changed to win2000 -- was previously set to win98

  • No longer install Corefonts package -- this may be in error, see below

  • Install Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 package -- the redist files included with e-Sword don't do what we want

  • Install Microsoft's msls31.dll -- this is a requirement of the program to function properly in Crossover

Ergo, a fully manual installation would be;

Download the latest e-Sword installer

Create a win2000 bottle, and install into that bottle app_ids 7857 , 6851 & 6894

Then install e-Sword itself - it should work.

I couldn't discern that adding the corefonts package did anything one way or another.
E-Sword ships with it's own fontset, and so one supposes it has what it needs there.
That said, this might be relative to my locale setting and/or what language translation
add-on you might have installed -or- your base locale character set itself, so if anyone
has any fonts strangeness, just give a shout and I'll include corefonts again.

Cheers!
