I installed e-Sword 9.0.3 using Wine 1.1.25 and compared the win32 directories to see what was different. One file that was missing was the mfc42.dll in CO 8.0.0. CO 8.0.0 supplies mfc42u.dll but not
mfc42.dll. On a hunch, I added the mfc42.dll library and the program works fine now.

To get more specific here is what I did:

1 Created Windows XP Bottle named e-Sword-9.0.3

2 Installed IE7 which should also pull in core fonts, msls31, Flash 9 Active X control among other files

3 Installed e-Sword 9.0.3

4 Navigated to /home/$USER/.cxoffice/e-Sword-9.0.3/drive_c/windows/system32 and added the mfc42.dll library

5 Start e-Sword and enjoy!

One more thing that I noticed:

The download installer from the e-Sword web site seems to already have the mfc42u.dll file present in /home/$USER/.cxoffice/e-Sword-9.0.3/drive_c/windows/system32. All that is needed is to add the mfc42.dll to this directory for e-Sword 9+ to run.

But when I installed from the CD, I needed to add both the mfc42u.dll and the mfc42.dll to /home/$USER/.cxoffice/e-Sword-9.0.3/drive_c/windows/system32. Note that both of these files--mfc42u.dll and mfc42.dll--must be present in order for e-Sword 9+ to run properly under Crossover.

These were my experiences. Hope this helps...

Gary thanks for your helps on this. I downloaded Crossover last year when they gave it away for free (24 hour period). I haven't really messed much with it, but wanted one module from eSword to work (Barclay) and I couldn't find it for MacSword. I read that you can use Crossover and never spent the time to figure it out. You have been a huge blessing to me and my ministry this evening. Hope it all works from here on out.
