Working in 6.2.1

I managed to get this to work with just one thing to note:

(in a fresh win2000 bottle)

  • There was an initial complain about a missing 'msls31.dll'

I worked around that problem by installing Internet Explorer in the same bottle

I installed Esword successfully using 7.0 Standard Crossover and Xandros 4.0 Linux. I had the same problem with msls31.dll missing. You do not have to install MSIE to solve it. All you have to do is find a copy of that file and copy it into your active bottle (folder) for Esword. Since I run a duel boot system with full access to my windows file system this was easy to do. You can also instantly copy over anything that you currently have added in window to your Esword bottle and it will magically install it in the program....do not allow an overwrite however. This work for adding Bibles, commentaries, etc.

I have not tried to get the Linux install to actually share the same data with the windows install althought I think that may be possible with a little tweaking.
😎

CrossOver knows how to download and install MSLS31.DLL for you. It's what we call a "dependency" package -- that is, it's not something an end user normally cares about but is useful for getting other software to work.

On the Mac, you can tell CrossOver to show these in the software package list by unchecking "Hide service packs and dependencies" on the Installer Assistant tab of the preferences.

On Linux, you can check "Show all service packs and dependencies" right in the dialog where you pick the software package.

Hi,

I created a new bottle based on your comment.
Base System = Ubuntu 8.10
Crossover Professional 7.1.0
Win2000 bottle
Installed IE 6.0 from supported app list
Installed e-Sword 8.0.6
Works 100%

Wow. Thanks for the note. I'll be trying the newest version of E-Sword soon using Ububtu.

  • There was an initial complain about a missing 'msls31.dll'

I chose to just copy this DLL into /system32/ rather than install msIE into the same M$XP bottle.

Either way would work. After this, eSword V8.06 works 100%.

Note: this was using CrossOver V9.0. & it's standard installer.

can someone help give me a step by step in how to correctly install e-sword on to my mac via codeweaver software. I install it, but it never opens. any help is super appreciated. thanks!

Richard,
The problem you're experiencing centers around the absence of MSLS31.DLL. Ken Thomases mentions it in his earlier post in this same thread. Ken wrote:

It's been sometime since I installed eSword on my iMac, so I cannot give you step-by-step guidance. But your goal is to get MSLS31.DLL installed, which, as Ken says, Crossover will do for you -- but you must tell to do so by adjusting the install configurations, as Ken describes.

Hope this helps.

Things have changed quite a bit with CrossOver 9.x. You no longer have to change anything in CrossOver's preferences. It's now listed under Runtime Support Components in our list of software packages.

I have copied the e sword program from an external hard drive through cross over on my new mac but when I double click on the icon it shows up for a while and then disappears. I saw your comment above about runtime support components but when I highlight that it won't install anything. If any one can please help me to get e sword to work I would appreciate it.

I suspect you need to reinstall e-Sword. Drag & drop doesn't really work for window applications. When you reinstall, be sure to select MSLS31.DLL from the Runtime Support section. If this doesn't work, post a follow up note
