DVD Shrink 3 Forum

By default, when you select a drive in 'Open Disc' you will get this error:

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.  
Failed to initialize ASPI device.

The solution is to start DVD Shrink as follows:

~/cxoffice/bin/wine --winver win2k --cx-app "DVD Shrink 3.2.exe"

solution, if you have a neweer dvd burner, then do as follows.

newer dvd drives need the newer software such as nero to work correctly for example:
you cant use the older easy cd creater it wont work doesnt even know the dvd burner device, ive ran into this problem before, but after installing the newer nero program it recognizes the dvd recorder device and works so in conclusion.

you get the cannot initilize aspi device or whatever it says, and it burned dvd for you before using the dvd shrink program then try this asuming you use nero uninstall it reboot then reinstall it then reboot again then try it presto!!!(((this worked for me hopefully it will for you remember the dvd burner is just a dvd player it is the software that recognizes it that makes it a burner without the software it doesnt know what to do.

Another tip is to map your cd mount point to a new windows drive mapping. In my case I have the symbolic link

~/.cxoffice/dotwine/dosdevices/m: -> /media/cdrecorder

Then if I mount the DVD before I run DVD Shrink it finds the DVD device automatically.

Oh and I also have the windows version set to winxp in my preferences.

My only niggle is that the video preview works when the disk is first being accessed, but doesn't work when i'm doing menu previews etc to decide what components I do and don't want to backup.
