Fix for 'err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {4590f811-1d3a-11d0-891f-00aa004b2e24}...' related crash

Running DDO on MacOSX through PyLotro 1.11a and Crossover Games Mac v8.0

After initial setup, DDO would run.

But I get this in the mac console,'err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {4590f811-1d3a-11d0-891f-00aa004b2e24} could be created for context 0x1', and it seems to be corresponding with random lockups/crashes of ddo.

Tried it in both windows xp and win2k bottles.

If you do the copy wbemprox.dll/wbemcomn.dll trick, it'll just complain about the missing WMI service next.

The fix to this seems instead to be installing WMI CORE 1.5 from http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/details.aspx?familyid=AFE41F46-E213-4CBF-9C5B-FBF236E0E875&displaylang=en

However, when you try to run the installer, it'll probably complain about needing Windows NT 4.0. (My bottles were win2k and winxp)
To get around that, go to Configure->Manage Bottles. THen click the Control Panel tab. Select winecfg and double click or press launch.
In the Wine Configuration window, in the Applications tab, make sure Default Settings is highlighted. Notice a dropdown near the bottom labeled Windows Version.
Change the Windows Version to Windows NT 4.0, and press apply. Start the WMI installer, and change the Windows Version back.

After a while, the installer gets stuck at "configuring repository file format". I just ignored it and killed the installer.

DDO should work without the crashes now. Yay!

Hi Keshi,

can you elaborate on the "copy wbemprox.dll/wbemcomn.dll trick"? I also have an application that is not running, also with a CoGetClassObject error message.

Thanks, Ben

after installing the WMI as you described my bottle became obscenely slow. it took about 10 seconds to open pylotro and the game wouldn't even load up afterwards. going backwards, i'm about to copy wbemprox.dll/wbemcomn.dll to a new bottle like you mentioned. i'll let you know how that goes.

EDIT: still crashes... this error pisses me off more than anything in the world. gotta find a fix
